Summary:A handful of practical tips related to wordcounting, preparing glossaries, OCR and specific customer requirements. No beating around the bush — just pure practice!
Description
This course is aimed at presenting some useful tips related to preparation of documents for translation either in CAT Tools or directly in MS Office formats. The issues will cover dealing with non-editable formats, wordcounts provided by various clients or freelancers themselves and using them to determine rates and deadlines, as well as preparing auxiliary materials to be used during translation such as glossaries or TMs.

What you get from here is a handful of practical procedures to be reproduced and/or modified for your own benefit. No beating around the bush — just pure practice!

Training plan:

✸ Word/characters counting — differences between CAT Tools, MS Office, Open Office
✸ Pre-edition in source file
✸ OCR Conversion — practical tips with Abby FineReader
✸ Dealing with common issues — graphics, redundant line breakers, too many tags in CAT Tools
✸ Preparing initial glossary with no CAT Tools — „automatic” glossary in Word or Abby FineReader
✸ Dealing with specific customer requirements: descriptions of drawings in tables, creating bilingual files, automatic numbering and tables of content etc.
Target audience
✸ Freelancers (both CAT users and no CAT users) who would like to improve their skills in preparing documents for translation.
✸ Freelancers who receive a lot of non-editable documents for translation.
✸ Beginners who are willing to develop the scope of their services.

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with a handful of practical procedures to be reproduced and/or modified for your own benefit. See Course program to learn more.
