Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down Well, I woke up Sunday morning With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes And found my cleanest dirty shirt. Then I washed my face and combed my hair And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my mind the night before With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking. But I lit my first and watched a small kid Playing with a can that he was kicking. Then I walked across the street And caught the Sunday smell of someone's frying chicken. And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost Somewhere, somehow along the way. On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cause there's something in a Sunday That makes a body feel alone. And there's nothing short a' dying That's half as lonesome as the sound Of the sleeping city sidewalk And Sunday morning coming down. | و يبزغ صباح يوم الأحد حسناً, استيقظت الأحد صباحا مع استحالة رفع رأسي الذي لم يكن يؤلمني لم تكن البيرة التي تناولتها على الافطار سيئة فتناولت واحدة أخرى للتحلية ثم تعثرت في ملابسي الموجودة بالخزانة و وجدت أنظف قميص داكن عندي ثم غسلت وجهي و مَشطتً شعري و ترنحت على السلالم لأبدأ يومي لقد أشعلت ذهني الليلة السابقة بالسجائر و بالأغاني التي اخترتها لكني أشعلت أول سيجارة و شاهدت طفل صغير يلعب بعلبة و يركلها ثم سرتُ عبر الشارع و شممتً رائحة الأحد المرتبطة بشخص يقلي الدجاج يا الاهي, لقد ذكرني ذلك بشيء فقدته في مكان ما, بطريقة ما على طول الطريق على الرصيف بصباح الأحد أود يا ربي أن يتم رجمي لأن يوم الأحد فيه شيء يجعل الجسد يستشعر الوحشة و لا يوجد شيء أسرع من الموت و هذا الشيء يكاد يوقع في النفس الوحشة كصوت رصيف المدينة النائمة و يبزغ صباح يوم الأحد في الحديقة رأيت أبا معه فتاة صغيرة تضحك و هو يأرجحها و توقفت بجانب مدرسة الأحد و استمعت الى الأغاني التي كانوا يغنونها ثم توجهت الى الشارع و من مكان ما بعيد كان يرن جرس وحيد و دوى صوته خلال الوادي الضيق كأحلام الأمس المختفية |
