Hello,

I just started my first project with Idiom WorldServer Desktop Workbench. I managed to split the project into subprojects. But I have no idea how to share the same TM, and term base between all editors.

As soon as the second one opens a project which links to the same TM, or Terminology database, Idiom comes up with an error message telling the database is locked.

Is it really not possible to use these files with more than one user?

Hi Renate,

I use the same tool quite often, and must admit I frequently share TMs and TDs without problems. I've never seen the error you encountered; therefore, I cannot guess what happened to you.

Could you be more precise and explain how you create the TM (we're talking about a locale TM, not one on the Web, right?) and how other editors open the project? And what is the extension of the project file? .idz? .xliff?

Regards!

How I did it (not...) Jul 8, 2007

Hi Sara,

I use the same tool quite often, and must admit I frequently share TMs and TDs without problems. I've never seen the error you encountered; therefore, I cannot guess what happened to you.

Could you be more precise and explain how you create the TM (we're talking about a locale TM, not one on the Web, right?)

Yes we are talking about local TM. It is a file on a network drive.

and how other editors open the project? And what is the extension of the project file? .idz? .xliff?

Maybe the issue resides in how you split the project file, which is not an easy operation: how did you do that?

I got a .xlz. This is a packed .xliff, isn't it?

1) From that I created my project .wsprj.

2) In this project I created two subprojects. These files have the extension .wpz

3) From the two .wpz files I created two new projects.

I wanted to link them to the same existing TM which I created in step 1.

This did not work because Idiom World Server Desktop stops while opening the project with an error message that a TM entry already exists.

4) So I changed it to a new TM. That works.

5) But because we still want to use the same TM and term base, I reconfigured the project using menu Project->Configuration->Databases to the TD and TM I already created in 1).

That works fine for one project. But if my mate opens the second project Desktop Workbench showing an error message that the database is locked by another user.

So is it not possible to use same TD and TM at the very same time?

May be I'm just making a stupid Desktop Workbench newbie mistake.

Thank you for your help.
Renate

Now I understand! Jul 9, 2007

Hi Renate,

Sorry, now I understand the problem!

By "share", I meant to send and receive copies of a TM between translators. But you want multiple translators to use (and update) the same TM at the same time via your network.

Unfortunately, as far as I know this is not possible with Idiom. I found a document with guidelines on the use of Idiom. It says:

Hi Renate,

By "share", I meant to send and receive copies of a TM between translators. But you want multiple translators to use (and update) the same TM at the same time via your network.

Unfortunately, as far as I know this is not possible with Idiom. I found a document with guidelines on the use of Idiom. It says:

" To add another translation memory to a project (e.g. from another translator on the same project)

Project>Configuration

Select the databases tab.
Then map to the TM/TD required.

Mulitple translators can send and receive _copies_ of their *.WSTM files on to other translators in the same project and add the TM to their project."

The only thing you can do simultaneously is to search an online TM from the Worlserver, but obviously this is useless for you.

No newbie mistake, then!

Have a nice day!

Sara

I feared so Jul 9, 2007

Hi Sara,

I fear so.

It shouldn't be hard to implement for them. Either there is no demand for it because most freelancer work alone; or they only want to offer this feature in the Web version.

Anyway, thank you for your help.

Have a great day!
Renate

How to share TMs in Idiom (simultaneously with other translators) Jan 2, 2008

Hello,

it is possible to share the IDIOM TM with other people, you just have to open (via Notepad: right click the file and then choose Open with) the following file on your local C:disk:

C:\Program Files\Idiom\Translation Workbench\Workbench.exe.config

and go to the following line:

then delete "false" and write "true" instead"

and enjoy!

I hope it works for you also!
Andreja

Idiom WorldServer Desktop: How to share TM and Terms Jan 3, 2008

Oi,

no problem, let me know if it works. Now you should be able to select an already existing TM in the initial screen when creating .wsprj files (without any error messages).

Greetings from Zagreb
Andreja
