Is rushing out for lunch "while working"? Mar 5, 2007

Well, actually I normally have such a quick lunch (some 30 minutes on average) I could say I have lunch "while working"...

If the question is about whether I bring my plate of food to the workstation, the answer is never...

staying up all night Mar 5, 2007

If I have to stay up all night I quite often reward myself with a little snack in front of the computer every 500 words or so.

I try not to Mar 5, 2007

On weekdays I used to have to eat everything that I ate in a day at my desk, when I commuted to work early in the morning and got in late in the evening. One of the advantages of working from home is supposed to be not to eat in such an unhealthy way any more. Nevertheless, I sometimes still end up with a plate of food next to my computer, if I have to work through the lunch hour in order to finish something by about 5 p.m. The main difference these days is that the plate of food comes from my o... The main difference these days is that the plate of food comes from my own kitchen, not a German bakery, and is therefore along the lines of salad items and cheese, whereas previously, in the office, it used to contain a chocolate croissant or a doughnut, the only vegetarian items available in German bakeries and sandwich shops being sweet things.

All the time Mar 5, 2007

Well, I recently quit smoking, so for now I always keep around something I can snack on, just in case.

All too often! Mar 5, 2007

I try to spend my breaks away from the computer, getting five minutes fresh air and exercise several times a day. Often there is not enough time to eat away from the computer as well, so that 's the compromise.

Not anymore Mar 5, 2007

I find that doing more things on the computer and at the computer are conducive to staying much too long in front of the computer.

I used to eat in front of the computer because there was always that document to review or tidbit of news to check on. However, I soon began to realize that I was missing out on other things.

Now, I try to use the computer only when I'm working. That way, I rest both my eyes and mind.

A bad habit Mar 5, 2007

I managed to change. Half an hour won't kill anyone and it's good for your health

In front of the computer only mate, coffee or chocolate!

kitchen temptations Mar 5, 2007

I have my breakfast by the computer while checking my mail first thing in the morning.

I always eat my main meal between 1 and 2 o'clock in a seperate room. I don't want loads of crumbs or the smell of food around the table

I might have a cup of tea/bottle of water by my side in the afternoon.

I eat at the table Mar 5, 2007

But I have been known to drink beer or wine sometimes while working at the computer.

Of course my clients don't know that, or would they care.

Never Mar 5, 2007

I wouldn't be able to concentrate. Plus I'd hate to make my hands and the keyboard sticky. Anyway I don't spend more than twenty minutes at the table (for lunch, as dinner is family-time), so it's not such a long break after all.

Lunching away from the computer increases productivity Mar 6, 2007

I find myself doing this a lot more than I would like. I always accompany lunch with light work though..... checking email, proofreading etc.

However, I am starting to realise the benefits of getting away from the computer for half an hour. I usually sit in the garden with a sandwich and a cup of tea. It gives me a chance to think..... unfortunately normally about my pending translation..... and I find that I work far more productively afterwards.

Sometimes Mar 6, 2007

Dinner time is a family thing with me, but if I'm working through the night I have some snacks, coffee, etc. while working.

Also, if my family is out of time that is an ideal opportunity for me to work non-stop without anyone disturbing me and usually I take ALL my meals while working. And since I'm constantly trying to loose those horrible 3 kilos I usually don't eat at all when I'm alone!
