I’m not an interpreter and I'm not good at foretelling the future but I’d risk saying that it’s a good solution when there are no local interpreters offering the language needed AND the costs involved are an issue (hospitals, courts…).

It will make a big difference in the way simultaneous interpreting is done. My comments will refer to simultaneous interpretation. 2. Where costs are lower, clients will be more interested in hiring interpreters.
3. Wider use of interpreters will create awareness that the service is available.
4. Standards will change: some clients will settle for lower quality, while others will still insist on experienced, fully bilingual professional interpreters.
