Hi fello Prozians,

first of all, I didn't find any other forum that would be more suitable for my question. So, Proz.com staff, if you feel that I didn't choose the appropriate forum, please do not hesitate to move my question to the adequate forum.

I have been asking myself what was the use of the section "What proz.com members are working on". In my view, it doesn't show anything since anyone can write in there whatever they please to be working on, but which doesn'

Hi fello Prozians,

I have been asking myself what was the use of the section "What proz.com members are working on". In my view, it doesn't show anything since anyone can write in there whatever they please to be working on, but which doesn't necessarily have to be true. Expertise only shows in a real project you give to someone.

Thank you for explanation of this feature and have a successful day everybody.

You'll find lots of info and discussion about this feature under https://www.proz.com/wiwo/

See the FAQ, for example, which contain a number of possible reasons why translators might use this feature: https://www.proz.com/wiwo/faq

Agreed Sep 6, 2018

I agree with Eva. Although I've been religiously, and honestly, adding to it when I complete a job, I wonder what on earth it's for? I suppose it may impress prospective clients but unless some sort of lock is put on it, it's open to abuse by the charlatans who, I regret to say, do frequent Proz.com.

It is a way to be seen.

The 'featured translator' is literally a lottery - but every now and then I click on an interesting face or actually recognise someone.

Members can choose for themselves whether they want to feature in 'what I am working on' and use it in various ways, or (I think) they can move it down to the bottom of the page and ignore it.

If others take up all the space with large pictures, you will be squeezed out fairly fast, but it's a chance

Use it to show potential clients and collaborators what you're good at or what you specialize in Sep 6, 2018

"What I am working on" entries can be shown in your profile, and are also visible on places like the ProZ.com home page. The intended use is as a real-time project history with the option for networking. Entries are also searchable, so if I am looking for someone who specializes in Human Resources texts (or uses a certain CAT tool, etc.), I can pull up entries with that tag. Client contact is happening this way, so adding entries which help showcase your work and areas of expertise could be a go... See more

Client contact is happening this way, so adding entries which help showcase your work and areas of expertise could be a good idea. Adding key information to your entry (click on the "Add details" button in the review screen that comes up before you finalize your post) can make a difference, and make it easier for people to find you by language pair, fields, tools used, word count, key words, and so on.

I have always thought, I'd rather not say anything just in case I give away something confidential.

I just took a look at Tom's "religious" list of jobs and it does look quite good without giving any client details away.
Of course charlatans can write what they like, but nobody would produce a list that long and varied. Some of it you read and think, nobody would make that up!

Also, I see that a lot of entries specify "a long text" or even "a very long text" whereas I tend to do lots of little things for some clients, working on anything like three or four translations in the day. I couldn't possibly fill it all in, so maybe I would only mention the interesting, meaty translations.

Reserved for...? Sep 6, 2018

Actually I thought this feature was reserved for individual translators...
I read many times: "We finished" ... "We are working on..." and then I see about 5 or 6 entries right after each other in different language pairs but by the same person, and when somebody checks these members' profiles it turns out they are agencies...

If somebody makes a statistics of the entries: there are way many medical related TWB entries with a kind of "obligatory" marketing terms as "amazing pe

After a while it's "psychedelic"...
