I'm not aware of any in my language pairs and it would be unfair on the other entrants anyway

I took part in several Proz translation contests between 2008 and 2014. I do consider these contests both entertaining and challenging, but after what happened with the last one (http://www.proz.com/forum/prozcom_translation_contests/277633-translation_contest_celebrations_congratulations_to_the_first_round_of_winners.html) I will no longer enter any. I suppose the contest has become victim of its own success… I can only imagine the difficulty of running a contest for all possible language pairs, but as an active paying member I am entitled to expect from the organizers a more caring, cooperative and respectful attitude toward those who made these contests possible instead of the deafening silence we hear so far.Collapse

I couldn't have expressed my point of view any better (my bold there). Thanks, Teresa!

Yes, once Feb 24, 2016

Sponsored by a bi-monthly translation magazine here in Japan.

I sailed through the 1st round and was about to enter the 2nd and final round when I read a translation of the piece I'd translated for the 1st round in the next edition of the magazine which they provided as an approved 'sample' of how it should be translated. I sailed through the 1st round and was about to enter the 2nd and final round when I read a translation of the piece I'd translated for the 1st round in the next edition of the magazine which they provided as an approved 'sample' of how it should be translated. It was riddled with mistakes and read like cold pizza. It was obviously translated by a native Japanese speaker. At the end of the article I found that it had been translated by some emeritus professor at a Japanese university who really shouldn't have penned his name to the piece because it was an awful 'clustermess.' I thought that if this is what I am being judged against, I'd rather not proceed in this translation slug fest and opted out since they clearly had no idea about quality. Now, where have I thought that before?

Was just curious Teresa, but it seems that your link only leads to Nirvana now, and not to the that actual article

Yes, Michael, clicking just warps you to the other end of the universe.
Try copying and pasting the link into the whatchamacallit area at the top of your browser where the name of the URL is displayed or entered. This will beam you up to the right place.

Some language pairs will remain in qualifications and finals voting until sufficient ratings or votes are received to clearly determine finalists; see http://www.proz.com/topic/277633
