Hi everyone, I have looked around the forum a little but couldn't find anything on the issue. Basically I am working on a daily basis on 4 different dead languages [phd on Ancient History]: Ancient Greek, Middle Kingdom Egyptian, Old Persian, and Imperial Aramaic. See more Hi everyone, I have looked around the forum a little but couldn't find anything on the issue. Basically I am working on a daily basis on 4 different dead languages [phd on Ancient History]: Ancient Greek, Middle Kingdom Egyptian, Old Persian, and Imperial Aramaic. Every single one of them could benefit from using a CAT-tool for translation, but since the editions of ancient greek texts are much more stable then the rest of them, i would appreciate if you can at least offer me a solution for Ancient Greek. Here is the problem: I am trying to use OmegaT for creating translation memories for certain documents in ancient greek. I wrote the segmentation rules in the program. I also managed to apply them to the text by matching it with the the source language pattern I chose, which was modern greek. I can keep writing the segmentation rules and coming up with source language patterns with an undefined set of segmentation rules to make them work on my source file. However, I am not sure if this is a sustainable solution, because I don't really know what i am changing when i use a source language with an undefined set of segmantation rules to qualify my source file. Simply put, is there any way to add new source languages to the languages listed in the edit project page ? I can try to use other freeware by the way but since I know my way around OmegaT, as an intermediate user [I can't use the developer's tools or code or anything, but I can try with step by step instructions], I would like to stick with it and by other freeware I also mean i can not pay for the software, due to quite frankly being poor. Thanks in advance, Best Regards, Kaan ▲ Collapse | | | esperantisto Local time: 21:59 Member (2006) English to Russian + ... SITE LOCALIZER
Normally, OmegaT uses standard ISO codes for languages / locales. However, you can use arbitrary ones. | | | DKaanE France Local time: 20:59 Egyptian(Ancient) to Turkish + ... TOPIC STARTER
Hi Esperantisto thank you for your response. What do I need to do to see the arbitrary language code in the edit project's source language screen? Can I add to the languages listed in the source language tab, for example, Schmurphish and code it with SCM. If I can do so, how can I do it, how can I make Schmurphish appear in the source languages listed in the edit project page? Thank you, Kaan | | | Didier Briel France Local time: 20:59 English to French + ... You cannot list them, but you can type them | Nov 16, 2015 |

You cannot add (without modifying the program) new languages in the list of language displayed. But you can type any language code you want (and any country variant), as long as you respect the format, xx-YY or xxx-YY. That is, 2 or 3 letters for the language code and 2 letters for the country code. Didier | |
