Many of our sources report happy translators should Obama get congress to agree on the increase of minimum wages for fastfood restaurants. "I'm looking forward to flippin'burgers and wearing a uniform again" says one translator, "I can't believe the huge salary I'm going to earn, once that minimum wage is up - I have already prepared my resume!" according to another language specialist. Several of our sources in the translation world report translators will drop their keyboard immediately once they can double their income in fastfood restaurants.

ROFL Ed, en als vertalers kunnen wij klanten in minstens twee talen vragen of ze ook ketchup willen, met een beetje mazzel krijgen we daar ook nog toeslagen voor

Too funny ... and sad at the same time Jul 30, 2013

Yes, might as well be flipping burgers/babysitting/walking dogs when even *respectable* translation agencies in Europe feel it's quite alright to offer no more than € 0.06 per word.

Translators are really in the $45-100/hr range more Jul 30, 2013

than the $8-10/hr age, however, some clients seem to be forgetting about it. Lawyers are in the $200 --$1,000/hr rage, just to make some clients feel better. I only know about the local market.

Nothing will change... Jul 31, 2013

Nothing will change as long as language professionals are obsessed with ridiculous measurement units (words, lines, characters...) to estimate the added value of a translation job.
