Many of our sources report happy translators should Obama get congress to agree on the increase of minimum wages for fastfood restaurants. Yes, might as well be flipping burgers/babysitting/walking dogs when even *respectable* translation agencies in Europe feel it's quite alright to offer no more than € 0.06 per word.

than the $8-10/hr age, however, some clients seem to be forgetting about it. Lawyers are in the $200 --$1,000/hr rage, just to make some clients feel better. I only know about the local market.

Nothing will change as long as language professionals are obsessed with ridiculous measurement units (words, lines, characters...) to estimate the added value of a translation job.
