Dear College,
I am using a trial version (6.2) of MemoQ to do a project.
There are 86 segments in the file; after segment 35, I cannot insert trans in the segment.
Whenever I type trans in the segment, it just turns out to be blank.
How can I solve this problem?
(I browsed the forum before I posted my question to see if there is an answer.
Unfortunately, I didn't find one. )
Thanks for anyone's kindly help in advance.

Lots of unknowns... Apr 4, 2013

First off - the trial version of MemoQ has no segment limit, so that can't be it.

What kind of document is this? Are the segments perhaps locked (look for the lock icon on the right hand side of a segment)?

If you want to reach a larger user base for assistance, please jojn http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/memoQ/ and ask your question there also.

What was the source file? Apr 4, 2013

What kind of file did you have as the source file?

It is possible that the segment is locked (shows a padlock icon), so that you cannot edit that segment? If that is the case, you should be able to unlock the segment by double-clicking on the padlock icon.

What happens after segment 35? Can you edit those?

source file--PDF Apr 4, 2013

Hi Tomás & Steven,

Thanks for the info.
The source file is a PDF file. I checked the segments, they are locked...
I double clicked the padlock, MemoQ showed me a message:
"MemoQ cannot change the status of this row because it is locked."
(But I didn't do anything to lock the segments...)

Is the PDF password protected? Apr 4, 2013

I don't think it matters much since memoQ would not import a password-protected PDF file, I think, but... is that locked text visible when you open the PDF in a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader? If it is not visible, it could mean that the text belongs to some hidden object.

Not a password-protected PDF file Apr 4, 2013

I can open the PDF file with Adobe Reader.
Actually, I already finished one file translation. MemoQ worked well until I started my 2nd file translation.
Maybe it is the problem from my client's setting?

Try this Apr 4, 2013

Please select the segment and hit ctrl+shift+L. Does that work?

Nothing happened Apr 4, 2013

Hmm..I tried ctrl+shift+L, it doesn't work either.
I think I will just type my translation in a word file.
Thanks for taking time to reply to my message. : )

PDF filter in memoQ Apr 5, 2013

The source file is a PDF file.

Unlike the main competing tools (SDL Trados Studio, Wordfast, Déjà Vu), which all include a quality commercial PDF converter (Studio: Solid, Wordfast & Déjà Vu: BCL Technologies), memoQ went for a freebie with much more limited abilities. Your best bet would be to do the conversion with another tool and import the resulting Word document in memoQ. Before that, you can use the excellent (and free) TransTools to tidy up the converted Word document.

For the actual conversion from PDF to Word, you can use either Wordfast Pro or Wordfast Anywhere:

Thanks for sharing the info Apr 5, 2013

Hi Dominique,

Thanks for sharing the info.
The issue I encountered was actually caused by the client's setting.
that's why there was nothing I could do. (I guess)
Your info was really comprehensive.
I will try those conversion software if I need to convert a PDF into a word document in the future.

Thanks to all who tried to help!

Regards,
