Can CafeTran process Wordfast Pro files

Personally I find CafeTran a much better alternative for Wordfast Pro on the Mac (in terms of speed, useful features and number of tags). Whenever I have the choice of tools I prefer CafeTran above Wordfast Pro. So my question is:

Will it be possible to process Wordfast Pro TXML files with CafeTran in the nearby future?

Thanks for an update on this,

Hans

Support for TXML Mar 15, 2013

I just learned that memoQ can process TXML too:

This week it was also announced that Studio 2011 can translate TXML file by means of an OpenExchange plugin.

So support from CafeTran for TXML would be 'the logical thing'...

True, but not yet released to the public Mar 16, 2013

You're a good detective, Martin .

You're right: Support for Wordfast Pro files is on its way. However, it is my understanding that this CafeTran version hasn't been released to the public yet.

Hello,

The TXML format support will be included in the upcoming CafeTran's update (sometime this spring officially). I have just made the trial version available with this feature.

Wordfast TXML and CafeTran Mar 16, 2013

I found out that the demo version with TXML support is already downloadable at the CafeTran site.

Here is my personal list for preferring CafeTran over Wf Pro:

Fifteen (plus) reasons for migrating from Wordfast Pro to CafeTran

1. Smaller program, faster launch
2. No conversion/import of glossaries needed
3. No conversion/import of translation memories needed

To avoid any misunderstanings... Mar 16, 2013

This is what the CafeTran site says about the price tag:

The unlimited version of CafeTran costs 80 EURO (about 100 USD). The license can be installed on two computers (e.g. a desktop and a laptop for travelling). Free updates are available for two years from the date of purchase.

... which means: the licence lasts a lifetime, you only pay for upgrades if you want them.

TXML with already populated target cells? Mar 17, 2013

This link instructs to "copy all source segments to the target side", ie. it assumes the target column of the TXML is empty. What if it already contains some translations, whether "golden", 100% or fuzzy matches?

Not sure Mar 17, 2013

Hi, I'm not sure ...

Doesn't Wf Pro provide a way to only populate empty segments?

I must confess that I didn't test translating of empty segments (that are not populated).

Perhaps later

The Wiki article is updated (the procedure in Wf has been deleted since this is not subject of this Wiki).

H.

Meanwhile, there must have been a (more or less) small change: On the website, it now says that free updates "are available for one year".

As I haven't noticed this change before, I'm curious to know when it was made. Only a couple of days ago?

Thanks for your answer!

Free updates Aug 8, 2013

Hello Martin,

As of August, the free updates are available for one year. I am considering to create a flexible licensing scheme with longer periods for free updates (comparable to other CAT tools). For the time being, the current price of 80 euro is still unchanged.

Cheers,
Igor
