Hoi allemaal!
Mijn naam is Rosie, ik ben Italiaans maar ik woon in Utrecht. Ik heb een vraagje voor vertalers wie werken/wonen rond Rotterdam. I'm still learning Dutch so maybe it's better if I write my question in English!
Soon I'll be moving to Rotterdam and I was wondering if there are any companies there that have an in-house translation department I could apply for. At the moment I'm working as freelance, but I'm not having much luck lately and some personal issues are putting me in a position where having a fixed income or at least work as regularly as possible would be a great help. So since I'm moving to a bigger international city, I thought it could be worthy a try to work for a company. Any tips or suggestions?
If you don't know anything about this, could you at least point out some translation agencies I could apply and work for immediately in a regular way?
I would start by going into the proz blue board and searching by the location Rotterdam and approaching all the agencies you find there.
I would then look for any sort of language jobs in Rotterdam on job sites such as www.toplanguagejobs.nl or www.monster.nl. Perhaps you will find something there.
You could also try going to the larger recruitment agencies in Rotterdam and sending in your CV with a cover letter by email, or even visiting them personally (although they will then want your CV by email).
You could also perhaps approach the Italian 'kamer van koophandel' (or the equivalent in Italian) in Rotterdam and ask them for a list of the Italian companies operating in Rotterdam or a list of Rotterdam-based companies that do business with Italy. At least in this way you know that they will be dealing with your language combination and they may have in-house translators.
maar ze zoeken ook schoolverlaters, dus het zal wel niet heel veel betalen...

Edward: I will have a look at vertaalbureaus in the area through the blue board! I also appreciate you posted a couple of links with vacancies. I'll take a look and may apply if I fit the requirements. It's always good to have a little steady extra when you're a freelance.

Marie Helene: I didn't think of the blue board, but that's a very good idea, so as I've said, I'll look it up! I've already registered on the website you mentioned and I've been to recruitment agencies as well - no success unfortunately! But I think that the KvK is also a valid idea which I didn't consider. I should definitely apply!
Is your experience positive with vertaalbureaus? ▲ Collapse
