Hi everyone,

I am trying to work on a project for a client who just started using memoQ for their projects. The projects they send are online projects. So, if I understand everything correctly, I simply need to access their server to be able to work on the project.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to work on a project for a client who just started using memoQ for their projects. The projects they send are online projects. So, if I understand everything correctly, I simply need to access their server to be able to work on the project.

For the first project I worked on, everything went great. They sent me my username and password and information on how to access the license and server. I downloaded the free trial version of memoQ5.0. I really liked memoQ.

It has now been 45 days and my trial version has converted to memoQ4free and it seems I can no longer access their server. When I try to update/"activate" my license using the username/password they provided, I cannot gain access to their server. The PM has assured me that everything is working correctly on their end.

When I did the first project for them, they told me that all I would need to do is download the free trial and for every new project, they would assign me a license. Do I have to buy memoQ in order to work on their server projects???

Thanks in advance for your help.

pretty much, yes.... Aug 27, 2012

Hi

The 4free version is a v basic, no frills memoq package - If I remember, it will let you create a project that you can attach 1 TM and 1 TB - there is no functionality to work on an online project - as I guess that all translators would then run the free version and let the clients buy in the server.

You would therefore need to buy in a TP licence to allow you to access their server's resources.

Regards...

yes, I imagine you'll have to buy MemoQ Aug 27, 2012

I don't use the server edition, but I find it unlikely that your client has the faculty to dole out licences left right and centre which remain valid for the duration of a project and then to give you a new one when a new project comes up.

However, if you really want to find out, why not write to Kilgray and ask them?

It may even be possible that your client (who you say has only just started using MemoQ) has misunderstood the nature of their own licence...

Temporary license Aug 27, 2012

Tell them your trial has ended and you will need a temporary license. They can set up a temporary license for the duration of the project that you can use to work on the project. Some of my clients did that before I had my own license, but sometimes I would have to remind them. Otherwise you will need to buy the Pro version.

PS: if you have a second computer and you have not installed a trial on it before, you can install a trial version on that machine, but you will have the same problem at the end of the trial.

Licenses Aug 27, 2012

That's one of the things I'm confused about... The English version of memoQ uses the same word "license" for what I feel are two different things. There are the "ELM licenses" which I understand as what the client assigns me in order to access their server. Earlier when I installed the program, it asked me to activate my program since there weren't any "active licenses" on my computer. Here "license" seems to be used in the since of permission to use memoQ or rather registering your copy of memo... See more

Can the client as assign me this type of license as well, not a ELM license???

Temporary license > Update procedure Aug 27, 2012

If your client really assigned you a temporary license, you'll need to follow the below procedure to claim it:

> Help
> Activation Wizard
> I wish to update my ELM licenses from a MemoQ server
> Enter the server URL, User name and Password
> Click on "Check login"
> Next
> Finish

You can also extend the trial version period. Simply replace the last digit of your license serial number with "2" and you'll get another 45 days.

Temporary License = ELM License Aug 27, 2012

Is a "temporary license" a ELM license? Once again, this dual use of the word "license" is one of my biggest frustrations with memoQ.

Thanks for the suggestion about the 2.

Yes, "ELM license" = mobile/temporary license Aug 27, 2012

Yes, "ELM license" = mobile/temporary license

The URL you have been given is the address of their ELM server, from which you will be able to fetch the mobile license. ELM licenses have nothing to do with the permission needed to access a project server (even though the project URL will be probably identical).

You don't need an ELM license to access a project server when you already have a regular Pro license (or a Trial license that is still active).

So no
