First of all, please do excuse me if this has been asked before, but I haven't found any useful help in the forum.
I am a fairly new user of MemoQ and have just finished a rather large translation. Unfortunately, I am unable to export my translation due to an error message related to missing tags in the translation. I am completely at a loss as to what to do now, since I do not need the tags in the target.

As an example, the source reads "tv a 32″", my translation "32-Zoll-Fernseher", so there is absolutely no need for these tags but I don't know how to get rid of the error message either since a simple "ignore" obviously is not possible in these cases.
Needless to say that I have to deliver the translation soon, so I would really appreciate some help. ▲ Collapse

If you are sure that some tags are unnecessary in your translation and that the document will work nicely without the tags, you might want to double-click the golden bolt icon you should see on the right hand-side of your segment, and then check the "Ignore" checkbox of the unnecessary tags (by doing this, you change the gold colour of the bolts to silver), and export is possible.
After checking the tags as ignored, you should be fine.
However, how many tags do you have... Edited to add this:
- To see only the segments containing these errors, click the "Filter segments by status" icon (the gray funnel) and check just the option "Unsupressed warning". This way, you are only seeing the segments with errors. To go back to the normal view with all the segments, simply click the "Reset filter" icon, i.e. the inverted funnel with a red bat under it.

I see a red exclamation mark I can double-click on, but I can't check the ignore box and thus can't get rid of the warnings which prevent me from exporting the translation.

Have you tried Operations > Resolve Errors and Warnings? Select that option, choose "Active document" and "OK", and you should see a list with the errors. Can you enable the "Ignore" checkbox in the list that appears?

I can't mark the check box for those missing tag items - I can ignore the warnings with the golden bolt icon but not the red exclamation mark ones.

if time is pressing, just bite the bullet and insert the tags in the target segments. If they're not important it won't matter where they go. Just put your cursor in the target segment and press f8 as many times as there are tags in each segment. Have fun!

I see. How many tags do you have which you don't need? Also, what is the nature of the tags? Would it make any sense to add them again and remove them in the exported document?
Also, what is the format of the original file and how big it is? If it is a Word file and there are tags you definitely don't want in your translation, your best bet next time is to add the document with Add document as... and then select the option to treat tags as in-line tags, which you can ignore a... Simon's advice did the trick - it was great fun to do that for 40 segments, but next time I know what to do right from the start.
Anyway, I was able to export my translation and the tags don't appear in the Word document, so at least there's nothing to delete there.

memoQ has 2 types of tags, inline tags, which basically look like Trados tags and their contents is visible and old memoQ tags, which are {1}, {2}.. and do not show any content (these are the old-style tags). The first tags are not necessary in the target for the file to be correctly exported (mind you, that applies to some file formats and not to other, e.g. inx requires all the tags in place). If you are missing an inline tag - you get the bolt warning and you can ignore it, if you think it's ...
