Dear colleagues,
It's already two years that there were no meetings of translators and interpreters in Lithuania. Isn't it time to party again? I believe it is. Moreover, later this week there will be the International Translation Day. Unfortunately it is Wednesday which is not a very good time for gathering even taking into consideration that most of us are freelancers. So, let's come together on Saturday, 2 October.
Place: Chillout Baras (former Cia Baras, Pylimo g. 8) + colleague's private quarters
Time: from 5 pm - till 8 pm (bar) + from 9 pm - till 'who knows?' (private quarters)
Languages: Russian, Lithuanian, English
What is on agenda except friendly hugs and chatting:
At the cafe:
- Being a VAT payer in Lithuania - it is not so painful.** (An English > Russian translator Aleksandr Vasiljev will share his experience of living on the financial side of European street.)
- First-hand experience with various TM CAT tools: which ones we use (if any) and why we prefer them.
- Verification of ProZ.com members. (A good chance to become a verified member.)***
At the private quarters:
Warm atmosphere among your friends and colleagues with some drinking, talking and lots of wonderful music...
Bonus for foreign guests: a good walk around the city and sightseeing tour. For example on Sunday we can visit a unique KGB Museum which is located in the premises of a real former KGB prison:
Accommodation for those coming from other places: I have 4 sleeping berths and thus can accommodate 4 people at my own apartment. Of course my apartment is not a 5-star hotel but it's bearable. If there are other colleagues from Vilnius who can accommodate people please let me know.
So, guys everybody is invited (including representatives of translation agencies). Those who will come please register in this thread (or contact me privately to do that).

But do you REALLY think that the official part with speeches about thye VAT and CAT tools is a must?
Somehow, on a Saturday afternoon... Oh well.

Absolutely not, Diana. I just thought that these topics could be of interest for some of us to speak about. But they are not a must: we can discuss anything we want. Generally I don't think we should have a so called 'official part' at all... Let's consider it as a meeting of people with some common interests.
For the moment there are 8 people registered for the event and 2 are still thinking (5 of them are not ProZ members yet).

Hi, everybody. Any chance of moving the event? I am leaving abroad EXACTLY for those dates.
If not, maybe a chance to record the presentations/discussions and share them with those Proz members who could not attend? The topics of discussion sounded very interesting. At least the audio recording would be a great benefit.
In the future it would be good to plan such events beforehand, at least a few weeks prior.

Well, I'm afraid it's not possible either as it requires good recording equipment that we don't have.
