I run Windows Vista on a 32bit Operating System. I have Word 2007 installed, and SDL Trados 2007 Freelance which I just purchased and downloaded as part of a Trados 2009 purchase last week (I did not download the 2009 version.) I am unable to clean up my files in Translators Workbench. I get error messages telling me either that the document is not in Word 2007 (which it is, the document is a docx document) or "The target document cannot be created because the tag structure in the Ta... The error code there is -2147467259. I have looked it up on the Trados website but it seems unrelated. As a side note the documents clean up fine in WordFast. Could it be because I have WordFast installed as well? Thank you in advance for any advice you might have. I have the same problems with DOCX files. I still run Office 2003 but use the MS converter pack for Office 2007. Anyway, saving the DOCX document as a DOC (as an older Word Document version, not just renaming the extension) solves the problem for me. | | | Stig Jensen United States Local time: 16:17 Danish to English + ... Thanks, Adam. It worked beautifully. I appreciate your quick reply. Stig | | | Keneva Kunz Local time: 21:17 Icelandic to English + ... Is there a more long-term solution to cleaning .docx in Trados 2007? | Aug 5, 2010 |
As was pointed out above, it is possible to save files in .doc format and then clean them, but this gets a bit time-consuming and tedious when you have a lot of files (and can sometimes skew formatting). Does anyone know of a patch or fix for Trados 2007 so that it can clean .docx files? | |

If you have multiple files, it's time to change the workflow. Cheers GG | | | Positive and negative points about TagEditor | Aug 6, 2010 |

(localization of TagEditor for Thai is yet to come). Now, I don't feel TTX for Word is so bad. When it was introduced (Trados 7.0, in 2005), it was really unreliable but it improved a lot. The thing I like in DVX/memoQ is the possibilty of join/split segments despite od paragraph boundaries etc. As I have no experience in the CCJK languages, I can't guarantee it works perfectly in Korean but the Chinese/Japanese seem to be handled correctly, AFAIK. Well. As Trados 2009 was not available 10 years ago, I switched to Déjà Vu It has it pros and cons but it always produced better Trados bilingual RTF/DOC files than Trados itself Cheers GG

I have Wordfast and Trados 2007 Freelance installed on the same computer. So that I don´t run into conflicts, I temporarily disable one of them while working in the other program. I found that the quick and easy way to solve the issue is to save the document (as .doc., .rtf, .docx, should not make any difference), then click on Tools in Word. Go to Macro and click on Macros. A list of various commands should appear. Scroll down and click on tw4winClean.Main and then click on Run. That will clean up all of your segments and should do the trick. It works for me every time I get stuck. Since your translated segments have already been saved in the Trados memory, you don´t have to worry about losing them. Hope it helps. ▲ Collapse | | | peiling Germany Local time: 23:17 Chinese to English + ...
Hi americaninspain, I just wanted to say a big thank you for the macro tip. I just used it to clean up a file that simply refuses to clean! Thanks! | | | Renee Mazloum Spain Local time: 23:17 Member (2008) French to English + ...
You are most welcome, Peiling. I must have tried everything until I thought about using macros, and I must say that it seems to do the trick! | | | Macro tip and TM update | Aug 8, 2010 |

Since your translated segments have already been saved in the Trados memory, you don´t have to worry about losing them. Hope it helps. I remind you again that the Trados macro in Word is a good file cleaning tool if Trados does not do correctly BUT your TM in Workbench will not be updated during cleaning. Another good point of this macro (for many corrupted segment formats after cleaning the Word based Trados target files) is that the target segment format will never change after cleaning. This can be applicable to many non-European target languages. Recent TagEditor versions get rid of this weak point, however) Best regards, Soonthon L.
