Hello to everybody!

I hope this post will be useful to other translators with a similar question.

Hello to everybody!

Besides that one can work with direct clients or (maybe) send a reminder emails to the regular clients

About direct clients:In 6 years I have been working with only those direct clients that found me on ProZ and sent me a message.

I am a little hesitant to offer my translation to direct clients. Please any advice or tips on how to do that?

About a reminder emails. I have saved contacts in my emails of people and agencies that I have worked with. From time to time I send one or two messages, saying that I I updated my resume or just to remind of myself.

I know that agencies are usually busy and have a lit of translators to. I am busy too and do not have time to send a lot of the reminder emails.

I wonder how an outsourcer or a client look upon this reminders or mass reminders. Sometimes I feel it is a time saving option to send a mass reminder, but it mightbe just an annoying thig for an outsourcer. What do you think?

Thank you for your opinion

mass mails and resumes , straight to the bin Aug 13, 2009

I usually send out reminders of my holidays and other important news to my clients on individual basis, in their language (fremch, german, dutch or english), just a simple text with their name " Hi Inka, I'm on vacation from ... until.,.. blablabla"...

This takes a bit of time, but at least they all get individual attention, and in the end, it's the clients that pay for my house, my food and everything, so an afternoon's work is OK I guess...

Looking for new clients, can start really samll scale, maybe visit some business meeting of new businesses in your city, or talk to other "starters" and see if they need translations..., look on their websites to see if their English (or other international version) is loaded with crap and errors, and help them correct it...

For me, any CV I did not ask for goes straight to the bin, I am not interested in contacting people for potential jobs, if I really need somebody I will look for a translator or other specialist when I need one)

Greetings
Ed
