Hello Nate:

Select Jobs - rates in the menu Jul 27, 2009

From the Poz Home page, select Jobs - Rates...
(this might be only for Proz members)..
Otherwise think of the following:

Total income = total working days * number of words per day * rate per word

Provided you can get work "full time".
otherwise 0,6 / 0,7 * total WD * WPD * rate would be realistic...

Ed

Spanish into Chinese in EUR Jul 28, 2009

This is what I have seen for general translations (tourism) from Spanish into Chinese (your combination should be similar). I don't know the rates for specialized fields, though.

Translation: From 0.09 to 0.012 EUR/word.
Proofreading: 0.04 up to translation rates depending on the quality of the source work.

Good luck!

Hello again Nate. This may also be of interest. There is an explanation here of how to use the directory to find peers in your language pairs. Lesley. : http://www.proz.com/forum/money_matters/140831-how_much_are_freelance_translators_charging_nowadays-page2.html#1181384

PS By the way, I guess you know that there is a Chinese-language forum on-site. Perhaps you could also ask there.
