Hi,
I'm currently looking for a CAT tool, and have been trying out wordfast. I've downloaded classic as a trial - it's marked version 5.53q.
I used it with a document (fairly large, 5k words ish) which contained various images with textboxes in them. I did a short trial, using WF to translate a few pages.

I had two problems which made me very wary of this tool; however I've just attended the Webinar on Wordfast Pro and it looked great, so I'm hoping that my issues have been caused by user stupidity and not through issues with the programme.
Problem 1: When I tried to open the partially translated file the next day, it was corrupt. The word repair function repaired the file, but it was pretty unnerving as you can imagine! When I saved it and opened it again, the same thing happened, as it did with a new copy of the original file (which I'd kept safe).
Problem 2: When I cleaned the document (I only translated part of it, as I wanted to ensure it worked OK) all of the images moved from their place to the top of the document. I'll let you imagine the state of my document.
I haven't tried again since!
I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me whether it's usual to have problems with documents with images in, or whether this is caused by my lack of experience (I hope it's the latter!).

Although I consider myself an elementary level WF user, I really like it and can't believe how much time I save using it.
That being said, I've recently started having the same problem you mentioned Caroline. When I clean the document, many of the graphs and tables seem to be dragged out of place towards the top of the document. Needless to say, putting them all back in their place in the documents is anything but time saving.

Complicated word files, particularly with text boxes, have caused me trouble after cleaning up, the objects were no longer in the right place. This doesn't happen all the time, only with longish files. The only solution I have found is to put them back manually.
I've only had a corrupted file once, and I was able to repair it (phew!)

The above problem has a very simple solution since there is an alternative way to clean the bilingual file without having to mess up your figures. Clean it using the find/replace function: in the "find" section click "more" or a similar button to expand the option list, then select "Format", then "Font", then mark the "hidden text" box. Do not do anything in the "Replace" section/line leaving it as it is, i.e. replace for nothing. Click OK. This will remove the hidde... See more Hello everyone!

See if these global replacement provide better results in such problematic cases:
1) Simple alternative
Search for: Hidden text
(the content box should be empty, and the Font > Hidden checkbox should be checked)
Replace with: Leave blank
This will get rid of ALL hidden text. However, if your document contains hidden text that is not part of the segmentation (or if the translated text actually has the Hidden attribute), it will get deleted.

2) Safer alternative
Enable Wildcards
Search for: \{0\>*\{\>(*)\<0\}
Replace with: \1
The above will only delete source texts, along with their purple delimiters. The backslashes are escape sequences and should be entered as such. You would actually be looking for "{0>ANYTHING1{>ANYTHING2<0}" and replacing the whole thing by "ANYTHING2" (the target).
The above sequence also requires no errors in segmentation. Therefore, first run a regular cleanup so WF will update the memory and notify you if there are any segments that need to be fixed.

Note that still some moving around of floating shapes can be expected, as their position may be determined by the length of the background text that wraps around it. However, if you hide the hidden text (this is a Word option) and fine-tune the position of the floating shapes and tables before doing the cleanup operation, they should stay in position after the cleanup replacements.
