English to Spanish: Fragment from James Morris' novel The Escapist
Source text - English I found a secluded spot in the changing room of Selfridges on Oxford Street, spoke the security code into my pocket computer, and hit erase. All my once valuable Intel account numbers, now useless and incriminating, disappeared off to digital nirvana, shredded according to American Federal standards and then scrambled still further by encryption software I’d bought from a Bosnian hacker for half a million Euros. I was clean. If somebody came after me during the crackdown, there wouldn’t be any evidence that my diversion of American hedge funds to non-existent bank accounts had anything to do with me. No more of that stolen Yankee money for my pocket, at least not for a while. But there was a bright side. I wouldn’t be spending any time in penal stasis, like the majority of London’s vast hacker population.
I'm a person with a passion for translation, and meaning. I enjoy translation because of the opportunities it gives to reflect on the broad field of understanding.
To me, translation is not just about knowing or speaking the language pairs, but about the different levels of understanding that a translation allows us to reach, whatever the subject, there is always something to learn about a translation, its languages and its cultures and their points of view.
Because great part of my past professional experience relates to programming/sysadmin, I hold as an asset high skill in the use and domain of computer related technologies, knowledge of the process involved in localization, good understanding of national encodings and technologies such as gettext, po files, etc. Despite this fact, I seldom use CAT software unless necessary or required by the client. Most of the time I like to keep myself very personal to every part of the translation, to this purpose I use my own scripts on more general tools like EMACS.
Quality of the translation is kept is on top of my list, as I usually consider unethical to think otherwise.
