For the air bags to achieve optimum protection the safety belts must be worn correctly and the correct sitting position must be assumed.
The air bag system deploys in fractions of a second and with a high velocity. If an occupant has assumed an incorrect sitting position at that moment they could sustain critical or fatal injuries from the air bag as it deploys.
For your own safety and the safety of your passengers please ensure the following before you drive the car:
• Adjust the driver seat and the steering wheel correctly.
• Adjust the front passenger seat correctly.
• Always wear the safety belt correctly.
• Use the correct child restraint system to protect children travelling in your car.
Braking heavily the moment before an accident may cause an occupant not wearing a safety belt to be thrown forward into the area of the deploying air bag.
In this case, the inflating air bag may inflict critical or fatal injuries upon the occupant.
It is not possible to define a range of car speeds that will cover every possible kind and angle of impact that will always activate the air bags since the circumstances will vary considerably between one collision and another. Important factors included, for example, are the nature (hard or soft) of the object which the car hits, the angle of impact, car speed etc. The front air bags will also not inflate in side or rear collisions or in roll-overs.
