Source text - English Climate change will make it increasingly difficult to achieve and sustain development goals. This is largely because climate effects on poverty remain poorly understood, and poverty reduction strategies do not adequately support climate resilience. Ensuring effective development in the face of climate change requires action on six fronts: investing in a stronger climate and poverty evidence base; applying the learning about development effectiveness to how we address adaptation needs; supporting nationally derived, integrated policies and programmes; including the climate vulnerable poor in developing strategies; and identifying how mitigation strategies can also reduce poverty and enable adaptation.
Climate change and development are inextricably linked. Economic development has contributed to an unsustainable rise in the greenhouse gas emissions that are destabilizing the global climate system, and to an inequitable distribution of people’s ability to cope with these changes — their ‘adaptive capacity’.
There is now a consensus that climate change impacts development too. The world is beginning to acknowledge populations of the climate-vulnerable poor — poor people living in regions that are vulnerable to climate change and who have low adaptive capacity. And there is emerging agreement that climate change will substantially challenge our ability to eradicate poverty over the medium term.

Em grande medida isto resulta de os efeitos do clima na pobreza não estarem ainda bem compreendidos e de as estratégias de redução da pobreza não apoiarem adequadamente a resistência às alterações climáticas. Para assegurar um desenvolvimento eficaz face às alterações climáticas é necessário agir em seis frentes: investir numa base de dados comprovativos mais sólida sobre a pobreza e o clima; aplicar as lições aprendidas sobre a eficácia do desenvolvimento ao modo como abordamos as necessidades de adaptação; apoiar políticas e programas integrados criados a nível nacional; incluir as populações pobres vulneráveis ao clima nas estratégias de desenvolvimento; e identificar como as estratégias de mitigação também podem reduzir a pobreza e facilitar a adaptação.
As alterações climáticas e o desenvolvimento estão intimamente ligados. I have a degree in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Hydrometallurgy. I came to the field of technical translations after a career that includes lecturing Chemistry, Materials and Metallurgy at the University in Mozambique, extensive R&D in the UK, Brazil, South Africa and the UK in the fields of Hydrometallurgy and Materials. In the UK I set up a pilot plant for GEC, for the hot pressing of NdFeB magnets, and managed a joint EU project on Materials.
Lecturing enabled me to develop my writing skills, to explain even the most difficult of concepts in a clear and simple way. My pursuit of accuracy developed through R&D, coupled with detailed subject knowledge, means that every project is thoroughly researched, adding a valuable dimension to my work.
I have excellent communication skills developed through a professional career in Africa, America and Europe, and sensitivity for the cultural differences and work ethics in these continents.
As a result of over 15 years’ experience of R&D in Hydrometallurgy and Materials Science working in universities, research institutes and industry, I have a thorough understanding of the technical challenges faced across many different fields in Science and Engineering. During my career I have developed innovative pilot work which led to the granting of a Patent.
