A entrada de um só organismo invasor numa determinada região pode provocar consequências devastadoras na economia e no património ambiental de um país. Várias têm sido as descrições ao longo da Historia da humanidade acerca do seu carácter destruidor, demonstrando assim a seriedade deste fenómeno.
