Translation education
Bachelor's degree - American University of Rome
Experience
Years of experience: 17. Registered at ProZ.com: Jun 2008.
About me:
I am a native English speaker specializing in Spanish to English translations. My Spanish skills were acquired through over five years of formalized study and extensive time spent living in Mexico. I also travel frequently to Central and South America and speak, read, and write in the language on a daily basis through my work.
Educational background:
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Marketing, at the American University of Rome (AUR) in Italy. While I do also speak Italian, I focus solely on translating from Spanish at this time. Because of the international nature of AUR, the business course curriculum covered global business culture and practices. I bring this expertise to my translation work.
In May of 2009, I completed a Certificate in Translation through New York University. Specialized courses on commercial, medical, and technical translation, among others, taught me the ground work on the kinds of documents most commonly translated in those areas and supplied me with a great deal of vocabulary and comprehensive glossaries.
Professional background:
My professional work experience, outside of freelance translation, has been broad and allowed me to aquire knowledge that is often helpful in understanding and translating the documents in which I specialize. I have worked for a well-known investment management company specializing in mutual funds and other investment securities. I hold both my Series 6 and Series 63 licenses (necessary to solicit and sell mutual funds, variable annuities and variable life insurance contracts in the US). Both of these licensing examinations and my work in the industry required a broad knowledge of stocks, debt securities, investment banking, securities markets, taxes, mutual funds, and more.
Subsequently, I worked as an internal auditor for a major multinational corporation. As such, I developed an in-depth understanding of strategic plans, financial reports, consulting studies, company policies, and more.
Currently, my "day job" involves working for a professional society of doctors of internal medicine. Through this, I have acquired a base knowledge of many medical issues and medical terminology. I regularly translate both medical related documents for our doctor members and marketing and promotional materials to target new members.
Translation background:
Three years ago, I was working for a translation agency as a project manager. As I learned about the translation industry, my passion for languages and my love of reading and writing made becoming a freelance translator a logical career choice. Through my in-house project management experienced, I learned how to manage the translation project cycle from start to finish. I gained familiarity with most major CAT tools. I also did a significant amount of editing and proofreading of translated documents.
My prior full time work in the business and financial industries required me to spend a significant amount of time translating documents in addition to my other duties. I have also done many humanitarian translations for a variety of charitable, NGO, and non-profit organizations.
To sum it up...
I look forward to bringing you high quality, professional translations based on the thorough knowledge I have acquired in the areas of specialization detailed above. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. References are available upon request. I look forward to working with you!
