WORKING PRINCIPLES
Fuel System
In order to compensate rich or lean air/fuel ratio, the fuel injection system uses feedback control of the fuel injection volume from the signal of the 02 sensor. This adjustment of the fuel injection volume is conducted using the short term fuel trim value for feedback control (feedback adjusting coefficient) and the long term fuel trim value which "learns” the short term value (air/fuel ratio learning value). This diagnosis monitors variations of air /fuel ratio using the long and short term fuel trim value. If a specified period is passed without the total fuel trim value being within a rational range showing normality, a fuel system fault is judged. Also, if variations of air/fuel ratio exceeds the capability of the fuel feedback control adjustment, rendering it insufficient, a fault is judged. Furthermore, canister purge may have a transient effect on air/fuel ratio that can interfere with fuel system diagnosis. If the fuel system trim value has deviated from its normal range, a check is made of the influence of canister purge. If canister purge is strongly effecting the fuel trim value, this effect will be transitory, in this case, monitoring will pause while the canister purge is having a strong effect on the observed trim value.
Catalyst monitoring
The diagnosis is composed of two stage checks.
The first stage of the diagnosis uses the activity (switching frequency and /or amplitude) ratio between the front and rear oxygen sensors as its diagnostic parameter. Because a catalyst whose oxygen storage capacity has become small will not be able to absorb the engine A/F ratio fluctuations, the activity of the rear 02 sensor will become large.
The second stage of the diagnosis switches fuel feedback control from the front 02 sensor to the rear 02 sensor. An index value representing the volume of exhaust gas emitted by the engine during that period is used as the diagnostic parameter.
For the catalysts with a large oxygen storage capacity, this time will be long and the engine exhaust index value will be large. For the catalysts with a small oxygen stage capacity, this time will be short and the corresponding engine exhaust index value will be small.

Si el valor de ajuste del sistema de combustible se ha desviado de su rango normal, se realiza una verificación de la influencia de la purga del cánister. Si la purga del cánister afecta potentemente el valor de ajuste del combustible, este efecto será transitorio. En este caso, se detendrá el monitoreo mientras la purga del cánister tenga un efecto fuerte sobre el valor de ajuste observado.
Monitoreo del catalizador
Este diagnóstico comprende dos etapas:
La primera etapa del diagnóstico utiliza la relación de actividad (frecuencia de conmutación y/o amplitud) entre los sensores de oxígeno delantero y trasero como su parámetro de diagnóstico. Debido a que un catalizador cuya capacidad de almacenamiento de oxígeno se ha tornado pequeña no podrá absorber las fluctuaciones de relación A/C (aire/ combustible) del motor, la actividad del sensor 02 trasero será amplia.
La segunda etapa del diagnóstico cambia el control de retroalimentación del combustible del sensor 02 delantero al sensor 02 trasero. Se usa un valor índice que representa el volumen de gas de escape emitido por el motor durante ese período como parámetro diagnóstico. Para catalizadores con una gran capacidad de almacenamiento de oxígeno, ese período será prolongado y el valor índice del escape del motor será amplio. Para catalizadores con una capacidad pequeña de almacenamiento de oxígeno, ese período será corto y el correspondiente valor índice del escape del motor será pequeño.

El índice de masa corporal (IMC) —es la relación entre el peso y la talla, que se utiliza frecuentemente para identificar el sobrepeso y la obesidad en los adultos, tanto a nivel individual como poblacional.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), define el sobrepeso como un IMC igual o superior a 25 y la obesidad como un IMC igual o superior a 30.
Estos umbrales sirven de referencia para las evaluaciones individuales, pero hay pruebas de que el riesgo de enfermedades crónicas en la población, aumenta progresivamente a partir de un IMC de 21.
La obesidad es un importante factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de enfermedad coronaria, un trastorno que aumenta sustancialmente la posibilidad de sufrir un ataque cardíaco.
La obesidad:
puede elevar la presión arterial
puede elevar los triglicéridos y colesterol en sangre
se asocia con reducciones en los niveles de colesterol HDL (el colesterol "bueno", el cual reduce el riesgo de enfermedad coronaria)

• World diet change, with a tendency to increase the intake of high calories food, rich in fat and sugars, but with few vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients.
• Tendency to reduce physical activity, due to the sedentary style of many jobs, change in means of transportation and growing urbanization.
