To compare the efficacy of once daily (q.d.) subcutaneous (s.c.) injections of 20 mg AVE5026 with placebo in the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer patients at high risk for VTE and who are undergoing chemotherapy
Secondary:
To evaluate the safety of AVE5026 in cancer patients at high risk for VTE and who are undergoing chemotherapy, to document AVE5026 exposures, to try identifying a metagene predictor of VTE and to assess the survival status at one year in this population.
This is a multinational, randomized, double blind superiority study, with 2 parallel groups. Cancer patients with high VTE risk i.e. patients with metastatic or locally advanced tumor of the lung, pancreas, stomach, colon/rectum, bladder or ovary, initiating a (new) course of chemotherapy will be randomly assigned to receive once daily s.c. injection of either AVE5026 20 mg or placebo:
(i) until change in the initial chemotherapy regimen (i.e. addition or removal of at least one of the initial
antineoplastic drugs) if this change occurs after the first 3 months of the study or
(ii) at least 3 months and until the regimen ongoing at the 3¬month time point (defined as addition or removal of at least one of the antineoplastic drugs of this regimen) is changed; if the change in the initial chemotherapy regimen occurs within the first 3 months of the study and the patient continues on chemotherapy or
(iii) until decision is made to stop definitely chemotherapy if it occurs within the first three months of the study
whichever comes first .

Confrontare l'efficacia della somministrazione di 20 mg di AVE5026 una volta al giorno (q.d.) mediante iniezione sottocutanea (s.c.) in confronto al placebo nella prevenzione della tromboembolia venosa (VTE) nei pazienti oncologici a rischio elevato di VTE e sottoposti a chemioterapia
Obiettivo secondario:
Valutare la sicurezza di AVE5026 nei pazienti oncologici a rischio elevato di VTE e sottoposti a chemioterapia, al fine di documentare l'esposizione a AVE5026, per identificare un predittore metagenico di VTE e valutare lo stato di sopravvivenza in questa popolazione di pazienti ad un anno.
Studio multinazionale, randomizzato, in doppio cieco, di superiorità, con 2 gruppi paralleli. I pazienti oncologici con rischio elevato di VTE, cioè i pazienti con tumore metastatico o localmente avanzato del polmone, pancreas, stomaco, colon/retto, della vescica o delle ovaie, che iniziano un (nuovo) ciclo di chemioterapia verranno assegnati in modo randomizzato alla somministrazione di AVE5026 20 mg o di placebo una volta al giorno mediante iniezione s.c.:
(i) fino al cambiamento del regime chemioterapico iniziale (ovvero l'aggiunta o l'eliminazione di almeno uno dei farmaci
antineoplastici iniziali), se questo cambiamento si verifica dopo i primi 3 mesi dello studio o
(ii) almeno 3 mesi e fino a quando il regime terapeutico attuato nei primi 3¬mesi (definito come l'aggiunta o l'eliminazione di almeno uno dei farmaci antineoplastici di questo regime terapeutico) viene modificato; se il cambiamento del regime chemioterapico iniziale avviene entro i primi 3 mesi dello studio ed il paziente continua la chemioterapia o

At your first antenatal visit you will be offered and recommended tests for hepatitis B, Human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), rubella and syphilis. The tests can all be done from one blood sample, and are offered to help protect the health of you and your baby.
Although the infections may not make you feel ill, if they are not detected they can cause serious
damage to your baby. If we know about them, you can receive special care or medicine to reduce the risk of damage to you or your baby. It is better to have the tests as early as possible, but they can be done at any time during your pregnancy.If you decide not to have any of these tests, it will not affect the rest of your care in any way. Your midwife will tell you how the results
of these tests will be given to you. If a test result suggests that you hav an infection, a second test will be done to check the result. Having any of these tests does not affect your chance of getting certain insurance or the cover provided. It is only if you are actually found to have HIV, syphilis
or hepatitis B infection that future insurance cover might be affected.

Nel corso della prima visita prenatale vi verrà offerto e consigliato di eseguire alcuni esami per il virus dell’epatite B, dell’immunodeficienza umana (HIV), della rosolia e della sifilide. Tutti questi esami possono essere eseguiti con un unico prelievo di sangue e vengono proposti allo scopo di proteggere la salute della mamma e del feto.
Anche se queste infezioni possono non creare sintomi nella mamma, se non vengono individuate in tempo possono provocare gravi danni al feto. Se invece vengono individuate è possibile iniziare una terapia o somministrare un farmaco al fine di ridurre i rischi per la mamma e per il feto. E’ consigliabile eseguire questi esami all’inizio della gravidanza, ma è possibile eseguirli in qualsiasi momento durante la gravidanza. Se decidete di non sottoporti a questi esami, questa decisione non cambierà in alcun modo le cure mediche che riceverete. L’ostetrica vi spiegherà la modalità in cui vi verranno dati i risultati di questi esami. Se il risultato di un esame suggerisce la presenza di un’infezione, verrà eseguito un secondo esame per verificare i risultati. L’esecuzione di questi esami non pregiudica la possibilità di poter aprire un’assicurazione o una copertura assicurativa. Solamente l’effettiva presenza di un’infezione da virus dell’HIV, della sifile o dell’epatite B può pregiudicare una copertura assicurativa futura.
