Bio
October 1993 - Date – Freelance Translator Specialised in Localisation : I work for software & hardware companies, and translation & documentation companies mainly based in the Republic of Ireland, the UK, Continental Europe as well as in the States.
Main clients: Xerox Ltd., Apex Ltd., The Welcome Trust, WorldLingo UK & Las Vegas, Softtalk Translations, SDL International, Link Up Mitaka, European Translation Services, DAT UK & France, Document Design, Electronic Arts, Crestec, En couv! (Paris), The BigWord (Belgium), Stoquart S.A. (Belgium) JONCKERS TRADUCTION & INGENIERIE (Belgium), Home Office (Belgium).
Typical projects undertaken:
- Main quality controller/proof-reader of localised Microsoft materials for the Web.
- Localisation of Web material for Dell including Web pages; marketing material for a leading documentation company.
- Main translator and proof-reader for a leading American Company in the field of thin-client/server computing technology.
A few years ago, I helped setting up a localisation company: SOFTtalk Translations. As well as dealing with the specialised tasks of a localisation project (translating, testing, recompiling resource & help texts, proof-reading, DTP, quality control (QC), etc.), I acted mainly as Production Manager. Main responsibilities: invoicing - assessing of contractors - recruitment & on-going training of an in-house DTP operator and of a team of trainee translators. A typical project I worked on was a multilingual localisation project (5 languages) of an operating system for a handheld computer by a leading UK computer company. I was responsible for liaising with Clients & translators ensuring that the deadlines and quality standards were met inside the budget as well as testing resource files in various languages. I was also involved in the development of SOFTtalk website using Macromedia DreamWeaver.

October 1992 – October 1993 - Translation Support Assistant (TMS Computer Authors Ltd)
Following the insolvency of my employers, I joined TMS as a Translation/DTP Assistant. Main duties for the first 6 months: QC on translations supplied by contractors and DTP processing in multiple languages using numerous DTP & graphics packages on various platforms.
I then joined TMS’ Translation Department in a translation support capacity. Main duties: some translation work - terminology management across all languages handled by TMS - QC on larger projects - translation tools assessment - software testing - screenshots production - contractors selection - general project management tasks.

February 1992 – August 1992 - Translation Support Assistant (Phoenix Technical Publications Ltd)
Promoted to the role of Translation Support Assistant, I became responsible for the production of screenshots and for desktop publishing work, in addition to proof-reading and contents checking in Spanish and French. I carried out the hypertext linking of help screens in French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch for a multilingual project (Digital Research's DR DOS). Other duties: scheduling - liaising with clients & translators - mail shots in both French and English - various administration tasks. The company was also seeking BS5750 accreditation, and I played an active part in preparing administration, translation, DTP & technical support procedures. I acquired advanced knowledge of various word-processing, formatting, graphics and DTP tools.

April 1990 - January 1991 - Translation Administrator (Phoenix Technical Publications Ltd)
I joined Phoenix Technical Publications Ltd after graduating from University. Reporting directly to the Translation Manager, my first project was to set up a translator approval system and to provide a fully operational resource database. I was also trained on Ventura Publisher, Excel, WordPerfect, and various text editors and followed an introduction course on vi (UNIX Editor). Other duties: reception work - switchboard - fax - photocopier - mail - franking machine, etc.

June 1989 – September 1989 - Trainee Translator
Under the supervision of a more experienced translator: translation/proof-reading of part of an operating system/documentation, and software rebuilding/testing.
I returned to France to resume my university degree.

Après Media Limited
In March 2003, my husband (Gerard Rooney) and I setup our own company Après Media Limited. With more than 15 years experience in his field, Gerard decided it was time for him to start working as a freelance Trainer specialised in Macromedia tools (Director, Authorware, DreamWeaver, Flash, etc). As we are working in fields that sometimes overlap (numerous multimedia localisation projects also require some editing using Macromedia tools) and also because some of our clients prefer dealing with “limited entities” than sole traders, it made sense to merge our two businesses in one limited company.
I have now left England and moved to the Republic of Ireland. My husband has also joined me in Ireland where he has started a new line of business (in the insurances). Therefore we decided to close down Après Media Limited. For the past 2 years, I have been trading in Ireland as a sole trader registered under the name of Véronique Noan Rooney. My move has not affected my existing clients with whom I have worked for many years and for whom I will continue to work for.

Other interests
I discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) over 3 years ago. It is a healing energy technique very close to acupuncture but without needles: you only gently tap on energy meridian endpoints (on your face, torso and hands) with your fingertips. Results are often very quick and long-lasting if not permanent. It also often works where nothing has. I started using this technique on myself, relatives and close friends, applying it on various issues (toothache - headache - backache - sport injury - even depression and stroke). Since I was getting excellent results (often quicker than with over the counter remedies), I carried on applying EFT on every issue I was confronted with.
After seeing amazing results with EFT, I have come to realise its potentials. I really was compelled to get more involved. I decided to study the basic course as designed by Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, and I successfully passed the exam for the Certification of Completion ("EFT-CC"). I then went on with the next level (the Advanced Certificate of Completion - "Steps toward becoming the Ultimate Therapist") which I have also completed and passed ("EFT-ADV").
