Qualified German to English Technical Translator

I am a qualified German to English translator with a wealth of experience in the translation industry.

I hold the following qualifications:

• BSC in Modern languages (French and German) from Aston University
• Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation in German into English with the following results:

  • Technology: Pass
  • Science: Merit

I have over 20 years of experience in the translation industry. During this time, I have fulfilled many roles.

I started my career in the industry working as a translation checker for a large translation company. I checked translations of patents in many technical and scientific fields from German and French into English and marked up necessary corrections using BSI proofreading marks. Whilst in this role, I also adapted previous translations to match new source texts, completing any small translation necessary in the process.

I worked as a Project Manager on a technical translation project in the field of construction machinery for a large UK-based translation company, where I gained an insight into the importance of complex file formats such as HTML and XML within the sphere of multilingual technical documentation.

I developed this interest and my HTML, XML and CSS skills further in a later role with another UK-based translation company. I also developed an interest in computer programming and have used my spare time to develop skills in a number of programming languages, such as C# and Java.

Since 2007 I have worked as a freelance translator, with a focus on translating technical texts. The majority of my work has been in the field of patents, though I have also taken on many projects translating technical manuals, instructions and software.
