Source text - Russian “Тайм-аут”
После банальной кончины (взорвали козлы в собственном поршаке) Вован Каширский, наконец, очнулся. Он находился в странном тускло-сером пространстве, а под ногами была ровная плита из тёмного камня, уходящая во все стороны, насколько хватало зрения. Сквозь туман светили далёкие и тусклые разноцветные огни, похожие на лампочки гирлянд Нового Арбата, но Вован не успел к ним приглядеться: вдалеке послышался тяжёлый удар по камню, потом ещё один и он содрогнулся от ужаса. «Янлаван идёт», — понял он.
Янлаван был огромен, как многоэтажный дом, и шёл странно, поворачиваясь при каждом шаге вокруг оси, но такого момента, когда бы он повернулся к Вовану спиной, не было, потому что у Янлавана не было спины, а вместо неё были вторая грудь и второе лицо.
Если первое его лицо было бешено беспощадным (Вован сразу вспомнил про одну гнилую разборку в Долгопрудном, на которую ну совсем не надо было ходить), то другое лицо было на редкость снисходительным и добрым, и, видя его, Вовчик уже ни о чём не вспоминал, а хотел просто бежать к Янлавану и, захлёбываясь в слезах, жаловаться на жизнь и, в особенности, на смерть. Но шёл Янлаван быстро и поскольку в один момент Вовану хотелось кинуться от него прочь, а в другой, наоборот, изо всех сил побежать к нему, в результате он остался на месте и очень скоро Янлаван навис над ним, как Пизанская башня.
Translation - English Time-Out
After his banal death (a couple of motherfuckers blew him up sitting in his own fancy wheels, a brand new Porsche), Vovan Kashyrksy finally regained consciousness. He found himself in a weird, dim, and hazy place. Under his feet, there was a smooth dark slab of stone stretching in all directions as far as his eye could see. Dim and distant lights of different colors glimmered through the fog, resembling the neon decorations on Novy Arbat in Moscow. Vovan, however, didn’t have enough time to stare at them. From afar, he suddenly heard a heavy clump on the stone, then another. Petrified with fear, he shuddered at a sudden realization: “Yanlavan is coming.”
Yanlavan, huge as a skyscraper and walking oddly, revolved around his axis at every step. He didn’t turn his back to Vovan a single time for the simple reason that Yanlavan didn’t have a back. Instead, he had a second chest and a second face.
Although his first face looked mercilessly brutal – conjuring up a putrid blow-up in Dolgoprudnoe, to which Vovan shouldn’t have gone at all – his other face was exceptionally indulgent and nice. It conjured up no memories whatsoever that made little Vovan want to rush to Yanlavan, to burst into tears and simply complain about life, and particularly death. Yanlavan was approaching quickly and Vovan kept hesitating between running away and dashing to embrace him, so he stayed at the same place and suddenly found Yanlavan leaning over him like the Tower of Pisa.
