If you are of legal age, a Swedish citizen and not currently in a bankrupt situation, then you have right to start your own business according to Swedish law.
In Sweden there exists, namely, full trade and establishment freedom. This freedom is however limited according to certain laws and ordinances.
If you seriously mismanage your company and, for example, don’t pay taxes, VAT or other debts you can receive a trade ban for up to five years.
Laws which affect your company
Apart from societies general laws there are also laws which are directly aimed towards commerce. It is important to know about these. It doesn’t help saying “I didn’t know” afterwards.
It’s usually just a case of correcting the mistake but can sometimes lead to large fines and damages. Some of the laws which affect all companies are for example, the environmental law, the marketing law and the law of competition. Apart from knowing about these you should also check up on which laws especially apply for you and your company or branch.
