Source text - Russian Subject: OGIP Project – Оптимизация использования цельной длины кабеля сечением 300мм, 11 kV с нарушенной верхней его защитной оболочкой
Мной изучены материалы, представленные фирмой «5 Осеan», касающиеся проблемы, связанной с нарушением верхней оболочки кабеля сечением 300мм (11 kV) общей длиной 13774 м, ранее поставленного компанией Prysmian и находящегося в настоящее время на временном хранении в Дубаи.
Должен отметить, что прокладка кабеля с подобной нарушенной защитной оболочкой без её восстановления на нарушенном участке обычно не допускается, особенно, если объект имеет страховой статус.
В подобных случаях завод-изготовитель кабеля или специализированная компания, по требованияю заказчика, производит ремонт участка кабеля, где нарушена оболочка, при условии, что основные жилы кабеля не нарушены (определяется отдельным испытанием).
Отбраковка отдельных частей кабеля также практикуется, если длина нарушенной защитной оболочки кабеля достаточно большая, или на определенной длине имеется большое количество нарушенных зон верхней оболочки.
В нашем конкретном случае имеется на кабеле 14 небольших по длине зон нарушения кабеля, общая длина которого составляет 13774 м. Согласно представленной мной ниже схеме развернутой длины всего кабеля с отмеченными по длине кабеля зонами нарушения, а также данных по проектной длине двух участков кабеля, в т.ч. между платформами MSP-SB (проектная длина 7603 м) и платформами SB-IA (проектная длина 4799 м), предлагаю следующее:
1. Прокладку кабеля между MSP-SB производить не с фактической начальной его длины (точка «0»), а с длины 600м, где имеется первое нарушение защитной оболочки кабеля. Участок кабеля от 0-600 м, длиной 600м обрезается перед укладкой на кабелеукладочном судне Siem Carrier и цельным куском сдается на хранение НГИ. Нарушенный участок длиной не более 2-3 м отбраковывается.
2. В процессе кабелеукладки на оффшоре участок кабеля между платформами MSP-SB проектной длины 7603м будет иметь только два участка с нарушением наружной оболочки, в т.ч. на отметке 1450м от начала укладки и на отметке 4900м. В процессе укладки кабеля судном Siem Carrier (на борту которого находится группа по ремонту оболочки кабеля) на нарушенных зонах кабеля следует произвести ремонтно-восстановительные работы согласно одобренной ONGC процедуре. В процессе завершения укладки на данном участке кабель обрезается за 50м до 4-го участка разрушенной зоны оболочки кабеля и устанавливается на платформу SB.
3. Второй проектный участок кабеля длиной 4799м укладывается от платформы SB в направлении IA только после обрезки небольшого участка кабеля, намотанного на барабан кабелеукладочной баржи длиной около 50 м, включая зону нарушенной оболочки кабеля за номером 4. Таким образом отбраковывается небольшой участок кабеля длиной около 50 м. Он также должен быть отправлен на хранение в НГИ.
4. Прокладка кабеля второго проектного участка от SB-IA производится кабелеукладочным судном с учетом ремонтно-восстановительных работ в процессе его укладки только в 4х зонах дефекта за номерами 5, 6, 7, 8. В конце прокладки проектной длины кабеля (4799м), кабель обрезается за 122-124 м до 9-го участка разрушенной зоны его оболочки и устанавливается на платформу IA.
5. Остаток кабеля на барабане кабелеукладочного судна длиной 596м отбраковывается, в связи с тем, что имеет на своей длине 6 зон дефектов (за номерами 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14). Кабель должен быть передан кабелеукладочным судном на хранение НГИ.
Выводы:
a) Между платформами MSP-SB уложенный кабель будет иметь только 2 участка с ремонтно-восстановительной зоной его верхней оболочки.
b) Между платформами SB-IA уложенный кабель будет иметь только 4 участка с ремонтно-восстановительной зоной его верхней оболочки.
c) Отбракованы 3 участка кабеля с длинами 50м, 122м и 596м. Последний участок длиной 596м имеет 6 нарушенных зон.
d) В резерве НГИ будет сохранен участок кабеля общей длиной около 600 м без повреждений.
e) Предложенная оптимизированная схема использования кабеля сечением 300 мм 11 kV обеспечивает укладку кабеля с минимальым количеством ремонтно-восстановленных зон (2 4=6 шт), а также сохранение цельного участка кабеля длиной 600м.
f) Требуется получить от завода-изготовителя кабеля Prysmian процедуру ремонта нарушенной наружной оболочки кабеля для его дальнейшего применения (при одобрении ONGC) непосредственно в период укладки кабеля на оффшоре кабелекуладочным судном Siem Carrier.

Translation - English Subject: OGIP Project – Optimized Use of the 300mm 11kV Cable Total Length with Bird Cages Defects
I have studied the materials provided by “5 Oceans” regarding the bird cage defects on the 11kV 300mm cable of total length 13774m, supplied by M/s Prysmian earlier, which is currently being stored in Abu Dhabi.
It is to be noted that laying the cable with such defects is not allowed without proper repair of the damaged areas, especially if the offshore object is insured.
In such cases, on demand of the Client, either the cable manufacturer or a specialized company has to repair the defects provided the main cores are not damaged (to be confirmed by a separate testing).
Rejecting of the cable lengths is also possible, if the size of the damaged area is significant, or if there is high density of defects on a certain length.
In our particular case there are 14 nos bird cage defects of small area on a cable length of total 13774m. As per the sketch of the developed overall cable length and two project cable lengths, i.e. MSP-SB (design length 7603m) and SB-IA (design length 4799m) where all defects are marked along the cable length, I suggest the following:
1. To start laying the cable between MSP-SB not from the point “0”, but from the point 600m, where first bird cage defect is. Cable portion of 600m length (0-600m) is to be cut prior to cable laying by Siem Carrier, and as a single piece to be returned to NGI for storage. The damaged portion which is not more than 2-3m is to be rejected.
2. During cable laying at Mumbai High, the cable length of 7603m between MSP-SB will have only two defects: at the location of 1450m and 4900m from beginning of the cable. During cable laying by Siem Carrier (with the repair team onboard) the bird cage defects to be rectified as per the procedure approved by ONGC. When completing the cable laying of this segment, 50m of cable before the defect Sl.No 4 to be cut, and the cable is to be pulled onto the SB Platform.
3. Second design cable length of 4799m length is to be laid in the IA direction only after cutting a small portion (50m including the defect Sl.No 4) of cable wound onto the drum of the cable laying vessel. Thus a small portion of cable of approx 50m length is to be rejected. It also has to be handed over to NGI for storage.
4. Laying of the second design segment SB-IA is to be performed by the cable laying vessel after repair of only 4 nos bird cage defects Sl. Nos 5, 6, 7, 8. In the end of the laying of this cable length (4799m) it has to be cut 122-124m before reaching the 9th bird cage defect, and is to be pulled onto the IA Platform.
5. Remainder cable on the drum of the cable laying vessel of 596m is to be rejected as this length has 6 nos defects (Sl.Nos 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14). Cable is to be handed over by the cable laying contractor to NGI for storage.
Conclusions:
a) The cable laid between MSP-SB Platforms will have only 2 nos repaired bird cage defects.
b) The cable laid between SB-IA Platforms will have only 4 nos repaired bird cage defects.
c) The following cable lengths will be rejected: 50m, 122m and 596m. The last portion of 596m has 6 defects.
d) In NGI reserve there is a cable length of 600m without any defects.
e) The proposed method for optimization the 11kV 300m cable use ensures minimum defects on the lengths to be laid (2 4=6), as well as preserving a cable length of 600m.
f) Cable manufacturer, M/s Prysmian, has to provide the Procedure for Bird Cage Defects Repair so that the cable can be laid by Siem Carrier (Procedure to be approved by ONGC).

I have started my career as a translator/ interpreter during my 1st year of English & Modern Greek Philology Studies in 1999.
Up to 2004 I worked part time as a translator in a foreign language centre (exposure to a large variety of texts from highly technical to law, medical and poetry) and an international marriage agency.
In 2005 started working with CNGS Engineering as a freelance translator of technical documentation (oil & gas, engineering, EPC documentation), and same year later I joined this company as a translator/ interpreter.
In the early 2007 I decided to plunge into the technical field to get more understanding on how the things work, and started doing project planning, scheduling and progres reporting for the EPC Projects in the Oil & Gas sector.
In the end of 2007 I have got an offer from an Indian company Naftogaz India Pvt Ltd to join them in Noida (New Delhi) as a planning executive. Since then I've grown in this career to senior manager on offshore projects (construction and refurbishment of rigs and FPSOs).
Throughout the entire year of 2010 I used to work with a Ukrainian expert in Offshore and Marine field as his technical assistant, what included a Russian-English translation of various technical documentation (including Autocad drawings) issued by him, as well as interpretation during technical and review meetings, barge inspections.
So now, having sufficiently explored the oil and gas as well as shipping & shipbuilding industries, and having enriched myself with hand on experience in oil & gas & energy sectors, shipbuilding, involving working with such disciplines as civil, mechanical, E&I engineering, I would like to return to my favorite translation world and apply my knowledge and 6 years of working in the English language environment with hi-profile experts in the field.
This year 2015 one of my most sacred dreams finally came true: I finally got engaged into literary translation, translated A Dog's Journey by W. Bruce Cameron from English into Russian for the Bakanow Translation School (Moscow, Russia).
I'm also willing to undertake the literary translation again.
