Mirna
Soares Andrade is a native speaker of Portuguese who learned English at the age
of five while living in the United States. Later she went on to study French and Spanish, perfecting the latter in Argentina. She holds a master’s degree in
Language Studies from PUC-Rio and was the recipient of several grants and
scholarships for academic achievement and research in Brazil and abroad.
Translating and interpreting became a professional
activity in 1995 when she started working for NGOs and multinational companies.
Years later, she became an American Translators Association-Certified
Translator from English into Portuguese and from Portuguese into English and a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). For
two years she was the Administrator for the Portuguese Language Division and
has been a speaker in ATA conferences, as well as other academic conferences.
While in Brazil, Mirna founded
Corpora Translations and worked with direct clients such as multinational companies, NGO’s, publishing houses and subtitling
agencies.
Mirna has extensive high-level
translation and interpreting experience with international organizations, especially in the
Inter-American System, having worked as an in-house translator and reviewer for
the Organization of American States and as an independent linguist for the
Inter-American Development Bank, Pan-American Health Organization and the World Bank. From
2016 to 2019, she was a staff interpreter/translator at the Inter-American Defense
College.
Nowadays, Mirna is a freelance
translator and interpreter based in the United States.
