Romanian to English: The Implications of Brest-Litovsk Peace over Romania Detailed field: History
Source text - Romanian	Translation - English The tackling of Brest-Litovsk peace contributes to revealing its real significance during the First World War. Often, ”the forgotten peace” - as it is sometimes named - was unfairly considered an event of no major importance, hardly an embarrassing one that had no echo after the war was over. The Russian abandoning the war had very serious consequences for its allies, both for a short period and, also, for a longer period of time, later between the Two World Wars. The Romanians were among the first to painfully feel the effects of the ”shock wave” made by the separate peace between the Central Powers and the Bolshevik regime, that took power in Petrograd, during the fall of 1917. Among the immediate consequences of the negotiations and of the Brest-Litovsk treaty there must be mentioned the Romanian concluding the Focşani armistice and the Buftea-Bucharest peace. In the same time, there can’t be ignored Lenin’s Government hostile actions against the Romanian state: the intentions of introducing, in ”oligarchic Romania”, the ”blessings of the Russian Revolution” , by removing the monarchy and the country’s legal government, the unprecedented measure of arresting the Romanian Legation in Petrograd, as well as illegal seizure of the Romanian treasure, that had been put in Kremlin. All these, together with the repudiation of Chisinau Country Council’s decision to unite with Romania – in fact, the only fortunate consequence of Russian disintegration and, most of all, an effect of the Romanian national effort in this territory – all of these leaded to a profound worsening relation of the Romanian state with its Eastern neighbour.
