El proyecto HidroAyén es un proyecto estratégico e indispensable para obtener la independencia y soberanía energética chilena, y de esta manera contribuir al crecimiento económico de nuestro país, con un suministro seguro basado en el uso de recursos naturales propios, limpios, abundantes y renovables.
- Chile duplicará su capacidad instalada en 10 años y la triplicará en 20, por lo que el proyecto HidroAysén constituirá un aporte concreto a resolver los problemas de suministro energético que presenta el país. El aporte del Proyecto HidroAysén, con una potencia instalada de 2.750 MW, tiene una capacidad de generación de 18.430 GWh (equivalente a lo que generaron todas las centrales hidroeléctricas durante 2006)
→ Chile hoy importa el 72% de la energía que consume en forma de petróleo, gas y carbón, lo que nos hace depender de la disponibilidad y de la alta variabilidad y volatilidad de los precios que estos insumos tienen en los mercados internacionales.
→ Contribuirá a la confiabilidad y estabilidad energética de Chile, en tanto los ríos Baker y Pascua poseen grandes caudales y exhiben una baja variabilidad durante todo el año, presentando un régimen hidrológico complementario a los ríos de la zona central que tienen un comportamiento más irregular, ya que están basados en el aporte de las lluvias, mientras que estos ríos tienen un régimen nival y provienen del deshielo natural de los glaciares
El proyecto HidroAysén utilizará el gran activo a nivel nacional para generar energía limpia y renovable.
Sustituiría la generación de energías que tienen como base el uso de fuentes fósiles (petróleo, carbón o gas natural), con lo que reemplazaría – a plena capacidad - la emisión de CO2 a la atmósfera en unas 16 millones de toneladas al año, constituyéndose en un aporte concreto a mitigar los efectos del calentamiento global.
El proyecto HidroAysén generará energía destinada a abastecer a más del 93 % de la población de Chile, al inyectar su producción al Sistema Interconectado Central (SIC), donde se concentra mayoritariamente la actividad industrial, empresarial y de servicios de Chile.
BENEFICIOS DEL PROYECTO PARA LA REGIÓN
La ejecución del proyecto HidroAysén significará un claro aporte para la región de Aysén, ya que dinamizará la economía local, incentivando el empleo, la capacitación, la conectividad, la cultura, los servicios, el comercio y otorgará nuevas oportunidades de desarrollo.
El proyecto HidroAysén es compatible con otras actividades económicas (tales como turismo, ganadería, entre otros) y fortalecerá las posibilidades de desarrollo integral de la Región de Aysén.
COSTOS PARA EL PAÍS DE NO CONCRETARSE EL PHA
Se dejaría de ocupar el gran activo disponible a nivel nacional para generar energía limpia, renovable, y con independencia de otros países, ya que el agua es un recurso natural que es chileno, abundante, disponible y estratégico para generar electricidad.
Se tendrían que reemplazar los MW que generaría el PHA con otras fuentes de generación. La tendencia a la fecha demuestra que esto se haría mediante centrales a carbón, las que son altamente contaminantes.
El proyecto HidroAysén, con una capacidad instalada de 2.750 MW, equivale a unas 7 centrales termoeléctricas (vapor-carbón), lo que supone la emisión de 16 millones de toneladas de CO2 al año.
ERNC COMO ALTERNATIVA AL PHA
Chile requiere del orden de 2.500 a 3.000 GWh adicionales cada año, por lo que todo proyecto energético es bienvenido y se requiere para apuntar al desafío de diversificar la matriz energética.
Sin embargo es importante aclarar que si bien las ERNC son positivas y necesarias, no resuelven la magnitud de la demanda energética chilena, cuentan con costos más elevados de generación, lo que en definitiva afecta al consumidor final y requieren de mayores superficies de intervención, por lo que si bien pueden funcionar como un buen complemento al proyecto, en ningún caso lo reemplazan.

HidroAysen is a strategic and essential project for the Chilean independence and sovereignty on the energy field, contributing to the national economic growth, assuring power supply based on the use of our clean, abundant and renewable natural resources.
• Chile will duplicate its actual capacity in 10 years time, and trebles it in 20, which means HidroAysen power plant project, will be a solid contribution to solving the actual power shortage in Chile.
The contribution of HidroAysen project, which has an installed power of 2.750 MW, has a generating capacity of 18.430 GWh (the equivalent of the total energy that all hydroelectric plants generated in Chile during 2006)
→ Currently, Chile imports 72% of the energy consumed in the form of oil, gas and coal, always depending on the availability, the high variability and volatility of the supplies prices in the international markets.
→ It will contribute to the reliability and power stability in Chile due to the high flows of the Baker and Pascua rivers, their low variability throughout the year, showing a hydrologic cycle that exceeds the regime shown by the rivers located in the central part of the country which flows are irregular because they are fed by rain waters, while Pascua and Baker rivers are fed by water coming from constant glacier thaws.
HidroAysen project will use this asset throughout the country to generate clean and renewable energy.
It would replace the energy generated by fossil fuels (oil, coal or natural gas) diminishing the CO2 emissions to the atmosphere in about 16 million tons a year, becoming a concrete contribution to mitigate the global warming effects.
HidroAysen will generate energy to supply more than 93% of the Chilean households, injecting its production to the Central Interconnected System, (SIC, Sistema Interconectado Central) where industrial, business and services activities are mainly concentrated in Chile.
BENEFITS FOR AYSEN REGION
The execution of HidroAysen power plant project will mean a clear contribution to Aysen region, revitalizing the local economy, stimulating the creation of jobs, training, connectivity, culture, services and local commerce. All of these factors will bring new development opportunities.
HidroAysen project is compatible with other economic activities (such as tourism and livestock, among others) and will strengthen the possibility of a comprehensive development of the region.
THE COST FOR CHILE IN CASE OF NOT REALIZING HIDROAYSEN PROJECT
The water, our abundant, available and strategic natural resource used to generate clean and renewable energy, without depending on other countries inputs, would not be exploited.
MW generated would have to be replaced by other generating sources of energy. The current tendency shows that the replacement would be by fossil fuel power plants, especially coal, which is highly pollutant.
The HidroAysen project with an installed capacity of 2.750 MW is equivalent to 7 thermoelectric plants (vapor-coal), which means an emission of 16 million tons of CO2 per year.
NON CONVENTIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO HIDROAYSEN PROJECT
• Chile requires a supplement of nearly 2.500 to 3.000 GWh each year, so every energy project is welcome and needed in order to face the challenge of diversifying energy sources.
However, it is important to clarify that, although non conventional renewable energy is positive and necessary, it does not cover the Chilean energy demand, it has higher costs of generation which affect the final consumer. In addition to this, it requires greater intervention surfaces.
Although it can work as a good complement to the HidroAysen project, it definitely does not replace it.
