Bio
Hi - I'm an accredited Spanish > English translator, based in London. Despite my name(!) my mother tongue is English, I was educated and have always lived in the UK apart from six years living in Madrid between 1994 and 2000. I am a practising artist with a BA Hons degree in Fine Arts/Art History as well as in Modern languages. I did my Dip/Trans in 2003 (Spanish > English).

I believe that my educational background in Fine Art and Art History as well 20 years as a practising artist engaged in many areas of art practice including painting, photography, collage and video, puts me ahead of the field when it comes to translating art-related material. Having had years of experience of deciphering the often quite abstruse and recondite language that is common in art texts, as well as having to engage with contemporary art theory and critical discourse, I believe that I am in the unique position of understanding art writing both from the outside, as the reader, and the inside - from the perspective of the artist. How is one to truly understand what an artist is saying about their working methods, for instance, if one hasn't experienced the same issues, both technical and otherwise, that are part of an artist's daily working life. It takes one artistic sensibility to truly be able to tap into another.
