Portuguese to English (primarily); English to Portuguese

Experience - U.
S.-born citizen.  Beginning Aug. 1966, studied
Portuguese for three months, 12 hours a day, then lived in Brazil for two
years, returning to U.S. in fall of 1968.  Made return visits as tourist and businessman.  Spent one week in Lisbon, Portugal in 1991.
Visited Portugal in summer of 2009.  Returned
to U.S. in Sept. 2016 after serving 15 months in Brasilia in an office
environment as financial secretary in an NGO.  

Spring of 2007 - Began
translation work with Verbatim Solutions, Salt Lake City, doing product specification
sheets, legal documents, etc.   Did about
120,000 words.  

2008 to Feb. 2015, resumed in Oct.
2016 – present. - Working as a contractor f0or The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, translating confidential documents of meetings and magazine
articles.  Nearly 8,000 pages.

Fall of 2014, did 30 pages of
English to Portuguese work for LANDesk for an advertising campaign in Brazil.

Did six single-page documents for
U S Translation, viz., school transcripts, birth certificates, etc.

April 2017 to 2018 – About 50 documents
for Alliance for African Assistance – San Diego, CA. (Birth certificates,
immigration papers, etc.)

During 2004 to 2008, experience
doing medical interpretation in local clinics and hospitals for
Portuguese-speaking patients. (on-call basis).

Taught one semester of Portuguese
language in an adult education class at a local high school, about 2004.

Education: BA in advertising
and public relations, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah.

MBA, Golden Gate University, San
Francisco, Calif.

Other work experience:  Spent 3 years in U.S. Air Force in public
relations, then 30 years in private business --- 20 of them in public relations
and marketing communications; the other years in general business management.
Ran my own business promoting and selling insecticide.  Did some international business.   

Fall of 2008 - Taught an array of
business classes at Copper Hills High School, West Jordan, Utah. Classes
included marketing, entrepreneurship, advertising, business management,
computer technology, sports marketing and fashion merchandising.  Also taught college-credit communications and
marketing classes. Retired in spring of 2014.
