Come arrivarci: le cantine storiche si trovano a Marsala vicino al porto turistico.
Una produzione ampia, variegata e sempre ad alti livelli. Pulizia, attento uso dei legni di maturazione, ricerca dell’eleganza anziché eccessive estrazioni, prezzi più che corretti, sono le caratteristiche dei vini prodotti. Dopo un anno di attesa ritroviamo un Ben Ryé in forma esemplare, a dir poco emozionante, in grado di far innamorare tutti; è una gioia “ascoltarlo” nel bicchiere, un brivido di piacere assaggiarlo.

È una sinfonia di aromi: albicocche in confettura, bergamotto, miele di zagara e crème brûlée, spezie orientali, uva sultanina, pan di Spagna e sbuffi iodati. Al palato è velluto liquido, la dolcezza è perfettamente stemperata dalla verve acida e chiude, interminabile, su ritorni marini e fruttati. Solo acciaio. Fresco, da meditazione.

Ai profumi è denso di frutta e fiori: amarena, rosa e violetta, quindi liquirizia, ginepro e mirto, leggera vaniglia con tocchi balsamici, tabacco trinciato, rabarbaro e chiusura di china e inchiostro. In bocca esprime estremo rigore, ha tannini serrati, modulata acidità e decisa persistenza fumé. 16 mesi in barrique. Cinghiale al ginepro.

Expansive and always of the highest quality. Purity and attentive use of oak-aging. Elegance as opposed to excessive body and tannins, and excellent prices.These are the hallmarks of the winery. After a year in waiting, we tasted Ben Ryé again, and found it in splendid form, a wine we could all fall in love with. It’s a joy to the eyes and nose in the glass, and a jolt of pleasure on the palate.

Velvety palate, acidity tempers the sweetness and the finish is interminable with sea salt and fruit notes. Steel. Drink on its own.

Cantine Lupo nasce dalla fiducia nelle potenzialità di un territorio e dalla convinzione che il vino sia il mezzo ideale per esaltarne le qualità.
A metà degli anni 90, con l’acquisto della tenuta di Campoverde, tra le pendici dei colli Albani e la costa tirrenica, si avvia un progetto di riconversione e valorizzazione.
Un lungo ed accurato percorso di analisi e sperimentazione si è tradotto, nel tempo, nel reimpianto di selezionati vitigni e nell’adozione di nuove tecniche di allevamento.
Nel 2016, anno di cambiamenti e nuovi progetti, l’azienda si affida a Franco Bernabei, uno dei più capaci enologi nel panorama italiano ed internazionale.
Il vino per noi
Per noi il vino rappresenta la naturale tensione a relazionarsi con il proprio territorio e la sua eredità, la creazione di un valore identitario da condividere ed, infine, l’occasione per una convivialità che soddisfa da sempre il bisogno di incontrarsi degli uomini.
Esplorare le caratteristiche enologiche di un giovane territorio come il nostro richiede lungimiranza, coraggio e tenacia: il piacere della scoperta e le emozioni di una sfida sono la naturale ricompensa.
L’intento è quello di favorire l’emergenza e la diffusione di un carattere enologico distintivo, consapevoli che il vino porta con sé una storia ed è allo stesso tempo il tramite attraverso il quale arrivare agli altri.
Territorio
Campoverde
Il territorio di Campoverde si estende nell’area iniziale dell’agro pontino e gode di una favorevole posizione climatica, delimitato a nord dall’ultimo lembo dei colli Albani e dai vicini monti Ausoni e Lepini, ed esposto a sud ovest all’influenza del vicino litorale tirrenico.
Le calde temperature della zona, mitigate dalla brezza del mare ed associate ad una notevole escursione termica notturna, concorrono a creare un’ideale microclima per i nostri vigneti.
Grazie ad una combinazione di componenti alluvionali e vulcaniche, con parziali infiltrazioni silicee, il terreno di questa area agricola offre ai suoi prodotti una definizione aromatica ricca e caratteristica.
Negli ultimi anni, con il costante lavoro di scoperta e valorizzazione delle potenzialità enologiche della zona da parte di diversi produttori locali, i vini di questo territorio hanno raggiunto punte di eccellenza.
Vigneti
La tenuta si estende per 26 ettari, di cui 18 vitati, e comprende la cantina, alberi da frutto ed ulivi.
La scelta dei vitigni, da un lato, asseconda la vocazione enologica del territorio pontino e, dall’altro, accoglie un’istanza di innovazione ed originalità: da qui, ad esempio, la scelta di Syrah, Merlot, Vermentino e Cesanese.
Le viti sono allevate con un sistema a cordone speronato e a Guyot. La vendemmia è manuale e con tavolo di selezione delle uve.
Translation - English The project
Cantine Lupo begins with confidence in the potential of this terroir and the conviction that wine is the best way to exalt such quality.
In the 1990s, Cantine Lupo purchased a farmhouse located in Campoverde, a small village outside of Rome, between the slopes of the Colli Albani and the Thyrrenian coast. They restored and renovated the estate, which now houses the winery and facilities. A long and detailed period of analysis and experimentation ensued, including a full replacement of the existing vineyards and the adoption of new growing methods.
2016 saw great changes and new projects for Cantine Lupo, including the collaboration of world-renowned winemaker, Franco Bernabei.

Wine represents the natural interaction with our terroir and its heritage, the creation of an identity to share and both a symbol and occasion of conviviality—man’s innate desire to live and relate in company.

Terroir
Campoverde
Campoverde is located in the initial area of Agro Pontino and benefits from a favorable climatic position; on the north, it is bounded by the last strip of the Colli Albani hills and the nearby Ausoni and Lepini mountains. On the south-west it benefits from the influence of the Tyrrhenian coast.
Both the sea breeze and considerable temperature fluctuations at night help to mitigate the warmer weather in the area, which has created an ideal microclimate for our vineyards.
Thanks to a combination of alluvial and volcanic components, with partial silica infiltrations, the soil in this growing area denotes a rich and distinctive aromatic definition to everything that grows in it.
In the past few years, local producers have worked to explore and to optimize the oenological potential of the are and we have seen excellent results in the wines.
Vineyards
Our land covers about 26 hectares, 18 of which are under vine. The property includes the winery as well as fruit and olive trees.
Our selection of specific types of vineyards takes into account both the oenological vocation of Agro Pontino, as well as a great desire for innovation and originality: hence our decision to plant Syrah, Merlot, Vermentino and Cesanese.
The vineyards are Guyot and spur-pruned cordon trained. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted and selected on a sorting table.

I began translating Italian to English in Rome, Italy for the travel publication, WHERE Rome in 2004. This work exposed me to subjects including: food, wine, history, culture, travel, and and profile pieces. Translation of ad copy also taught me a combination of comprehension and editing skills. I have worked with numerous publishers, including: Time Out, Doring Kindersley, Bibenda Editore, e Amex Essentials.
I began to focus more specifically on wine writing and Italian to English translation in 2009, when I returned to the States and launched my company, DiVino (http://www.DiVino.Wine). As a certified sommelier, fluent in Italian, I began, and to continue to offer translation and copywriting services to wineries, brands, and businesses.
