My language career started with a fantastic opportunity to work in Nancy, France, following my degree at the University of Birmingham. This period gave me the opportunity to really immerse myself in the French language and culture.
After this, I moved on to a similar experience in Santander, Spain, where I discovered my passion for translation and decided to take my first steps into this industry.
I moved to Alcalá de Henares to complete a master's in translation and, afterwards, found work as an in-house translator in an engineering company.
Here, I translated and revised a whole host of technical and corporate documents from the energy and industrial engineering sectors. However, by far the most important lesson that I took away from this job was the importance of quality. With the help of my more experienced colleagues, I learned how to create accurate and high-quality translations, values that have stayed with me in the next step in my career as a freelance translator. Since going solo, I have had the opportunity to expand my horizons and have translated and revised academic articles to be published in journals, and have also translated blogs and website content, while also continuing to work on energy sector and corporate documents. |
