Source text - Portuguese O extrativismo do pequi é uma atividade tradicional na Chapada do Araripe,
especialmente no estado do Ceará. Durante a safra do pequi, dezenas de famílias
tiram o seu sustento desse trabalho, residindo no entorno da Floresta Nacional do
Araripe com o fim de colher e comercializar o fruto. A comunidade Barreiro Novo
surge em uma clareira adjacente à floresta, sendo constituída por um pequeno
aglomerado de casas, cuja maioria foi construída com a técnica do pau-a-pique. Essa
atividade, porém, tem suas limitações. O pequi é um produto altamente perecível, e a
venda do produto in natura deve ser feita rapidamente, fato que restringe a oferta
do fruto apenas ao período da safra, que vai de Novembro a Abril. Para contornar
esse problema, existem métodos que objetivam prolongar a vida útil do pequi, por
meio de técnicas de beneficiamento e conservação. Tendo em vista o aprimoramento
das atividades de cultura do pequi e o desenvolvimento sustentável da comunidade,
esta pesquisa fornece os fundamentos necessários ao projeto arquitetônico de um
local destinado a promover técnicas de beneficiamento do pequi na comunidade
Barreiro Novo. Para tal, foi trabalhado o conceito de arquitetura vernacular, de
maneira a evocar os sistemas construtivos já existentes no local e demonstrar que
há qualidade na arquitetura praticada pelos extrativistas. Verificou-se também que
a comunidade enfrenta problemas de abastecimento de água e energia elétrica,
dificuldades que podem ser minoradas por meio de práticas que estimulem a
eficiência energética na edificação. A adoção da arquitetura vernacular em Barreiro
Novo aliada às práticas de eficiência energética figuram, portanto, como temas
centrais no presente trabalho, afirmando o papel da arquitetura no incentivo ao
desenvolvimento sustentável.
Translation - English The extractivism of pequi is a traditional activity at Araripe Plateau, especially at
the State of Ceará. During pequi harvest, dozen of families earn their livelihood from
this kind of work, once they live around Araripe National Forest in order to reap
and commercialize this fruit. The Barreiro Novo community comes to sight at a
glade contiguous to the forest, constituted of a small agglomerate of houses, most of
which were built using a technique called “pau-a-pique”. This activity, however, has
its limitations. Pequi is highly perishable produce, and the sale of fresh fruit needs to
be done quickly, which narrows the offering only during the harvest period, which
occurs from November to April. In order to minimize this trouble, there are methods
with the purpose of extending pequi’s shelf life through beneficiation and
conservation techniques. Intending to the enhancement of pequi’s farming and
community’s sustainable development, this research offers the needed fundamentals
for the architectural project of a place designated to promote pequi’s beneficiation
techniques at Barreiro Novo community. For this, it was used vernacular
architecture idea, in order to make reference to constructive systems which already
exist in the community and show there is quality in the kind of architecture done
by extractivists. It has been also verified that the community faces water and
energy supply troubles, troubles which can be decreased by practices that promote
energy efficiency in the edification. The adoption of vernacular architecture in
Barreiro Novo added to energy efficiency practices are presented, thus, as central
points of this research, affirming architecture’s role at the promotion of sustainable
development.
