mmxwhgga90hkqjgp0ymt.jpgEnglish in practice

Born in The Hague to a Shell family, I grew up speaking Dutch and English natively in the various countries we were posted to. Later in life, I lived and worked in beautiful Ireland for almost 12 years.

Translations only into Dutch

In spite of all those years practising English, I will never pretend to be an English native speaker. In fact, due to the lack of every day practice in my last 9 years living in The Netherlands, my active English has become a tad rusty. Which is why I prefer to translate only into Dutch. I love my mother tongue and I know what is common practice, what can be misinterpreted and how to avoid boring and cumbersome language.

Those 12 years in Ireland did, however, provide me with the ability to interpret an English text adequately. Including the fine nuances. And the awareness that not every message benefits from a literal conversion into Dutch.

Internet marketing

Returned to the Netherlands in 2009 and to my strengths and talents: writing/language and entrepreneurship. With a background in marketing and advertising, I have always been fascinated by the marketing opportunities the internet has to offer. So in 2013 I decided to focus on this discipline and I now offer extensive services in the field of website setup and upkeep (on the front = content side - I leave everything under the hood to the techies ;-)), copywriting and translations. No formal education there, just plain talent and years of experience.

I did complement my theoretical knowledge with a targeted training SEO copywriting and with Google's Digital Workplace. WordPress as a CMS holds almost no secrets for me anymore - as you can see from my (self made, of course) website.
