English to Spanish: How Dogs can Help Veterans Overcome PTSD Detailed field: Psychology
Source text - English It’s no surprise that a doe-eyed creature like the one at Soliz’s feet can soothe, but other benefits are less predictable. The animals draw out even the most isolated personality, and having to praise the animals helps traumatized veterans overcome emotional numbness. Teaching the dogs service commands develops a patient’s ability to communicate, to be assertive but not aggressive, a distinction some struggle with. The dogs can also assuage the hypervigilance common in vets with PTSD. Some participants report they finally got some sleep knowing that a naturally alert soul was standing watch.

Born and raised in Colombia, with both parents speaking English I decided to move to New York 19 years ago and worked in the hospitality industry for 16 of those years, while working in restaurant and bars I saw the importance and highly demanded people with knowledge in both languages. And because my mother has always been a great empirical translator and Interpreter with English studies I decided to join Hunter College in New York to study for their Certificate in Translation and Interpreting.
