I have recently finished a Masters in Translation at the University of Surrey, drawing on my language skills (I speak fluent Spanish and have a good working knowledge of French, which I studied as an undergraduate). Freelance work includes translation, proof-reading, editing, QM, MTPE, subtitling and localisation of marketing and HR texts for Language Service Providers (ES/FR>EN) and translating reports, case studies and budget spreadsheets for an Anglo-Colombian charity (ES>EN).
I have done pro-bono translation (ES>EN) for European Coordination Via Campesina, part of grassroots international peasant movement Via Campesina; the UK charity Children Change Colombia, which works with children and their families to challenge poverty, discrimination, inequality and violence in Colombia; and the UK charity Prisoners Abroad, which offers humanitarian aid to British people imprisoned overseas.
Prior to starting my MA I worked as a journalist for 17 years, 11 of which as a staff reporter on an in-house magazine for the supermarket chain Waitrose, before that various publications including a B2B title and weekly newspapers. I trained as journalist on the NCTJ accredited Diploma in Magazine Journalism from Cardiff University (UK).
