Italian to English: Concorso - The Examination General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English I must’ve been like this for two hours. My mum and my sister have already gone out. They do wake up early, one to go to work, the other to go to pray. I can’t help it. I set my alarm for 7am, so maybe we’ll have breakfast together sometimes, but whatever. I open an eye and hear the little voice in my head that says “It’s still early, another five minutes and then they’ll both be in the kitchen and you’ll find everything ready.” Reasoning that makes perfect sense. Just that then in practice the five minutes become fifty. And I end up like now, having breakfast alone. By now I’m used to it, but I don’t like having breakfast alone. Before, when I was at school and I was forced to get up early, we had breakfast all three of us together in our little kitchen and talked. Well I talked, my mum answered me out of motherly love, while my sister grumbled, but only if she was forced to give a response.
Instead today I woke up early, but I got out of bed just as they closed the front door. How annoying! I almost made it!

Experience
Years of experience: 6. Registered at ProZ.com: Sep 2017.
I am an Italian-English translator, with a Master's degree at the University of Western Australia. I am particularly interested in literary and creative translation, but also work in other areas, particularly media, marketing and communications. I am very detail-oriented and feel it is very important to do thorough research on anything I translate to get the best possible outcome. I edit, revise and proofread as well as translate.
My personal interests span from literature to Australian football, and I relish the opportunity to learn about new areas or ideas. I am that friend who will google that actor or that fact when no one else cares. I like to know things!
I am now a PhD student researching reader reception of source-oriented translated literature.
I have studied Italian since my childhood, spent two months living in Italy as a teenager, and studied under some of the best Italian academics and teachers in Australia at university. I combine my passion for Italian with a love of honing my skills as a writer and reading anything I can get my hands on in my native language.
