Source text - English Last week, more than 50 leaders from around the world gathered in Mexico City to chart our company’s future growth and define our new aspiration.
While we discussed strategic priorities, financial targets, and action plans, it’s important for you to know that much of our work focused on the key elements of our company that most directly impact our ability to succeed. . . and that’s our people, and our ability to work together as a unified, energized, and high-performance team.
From the outset of the meeting, we committed to getting out of our comfort zones, being candid, challenging each other to be our best, and listening to and trusting one another. As a result, we addressed challenges—both internal and external—that could serve as barriers to our success. This honest, healthy debate helped us to align on several key commitments and advance our work on the company’s new aspiration. It also reminded all of us that this is the kind of environment we need to foster everyday.
In the coming months, we will continue to work on the aspiration, so that we can announce our plans in early 2008. As a starting point, we have committed to the following:

• We reaffirmed those important strengths we have as the X Company that will remain at the heart of everything we do, including our vision, values, our dedication to people and our commitment to winning in today’s marketplace while building generational growth.
• We reaffirmed that we ARE the X Company and that we will continue to grow our portfolio of confectionery products by investing against our biggest opportunities. In certain marketplaces, our current emphasis might remain on gum, if that is what the competitive and consumer environment demands. However, we will continue to leverage our increasingly diverse portfolio of confections to help us build share and business where most appropriate.
• We are a team with a winning attitude and a renewed competitive spirit. We drive results and drive share in our confectionery category.
