(CNN) If you are intensifying your running regimen in hopes of losing weight, you might be running around in circles: There is a limit to how many calories we can burn through exercise, a new study suggests.
The grim message comes from a small study of a group of 332 adults living in the United States, Jamaica and Africa, some of them more sedentary and some more active. A team of researchers measured their activity level for seven days using an accelerometer, similar to the kind in the Fitbit and other wearable devices, and also measured the number of calories the participants burned over the week.
The researchers found that the participants who moved more also burned more calories, but only up to a point. The most active people hit a plateau and did not burn any more calories than their less-active peers.
Although the researchers did not look at the specific activities that participants were doing, the level on the accelerometer at which calorie burning peters out would be achieved "if you're walking a couple miles a day, like to work and back, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and trying to exercise a couple times a week," said Herman Pontzer, associate professor of anthropology at Hunter College, and lead author of the study, which was published on Thursday in the journal Current Biology.
The study is in step with a growing body of research suggesting that burning a bunch of calories is a less realistic weight loss strategy than we might have thought, or hoped. "We can't push the calories out [value] around too much," Pontzer said. "Our bodies work very hard to keep it the same."
It might be time to shift that standard public health message: To lose weight, simply exercise more.
"We would say that 'If you want to lose weight, you probably ought to focus on changing your diet and watching how much you eat.' Exercise can help and it's really important [for health in general], but they are two different tools," Pontzer said.
Making the most of exercise
The challenge of trying to lose weight just by exercising more is no secret to some clinicians. "This study actually explains a phenomenon that I see quite commonly," said Dr. Holly F. Lofton, director of the Medical Weight Management Program at NYU Langone Medical Center.
"I see patients training for a marathon and they ask me, 'Why am I not losing weight?' “even though they are exercising more and eating the same number of calories, Lofton said.
People who are increasing their exercise within a less ambitious range, such as going from being sedentary to walking or going from walking to jogging a few miles a day, will probably increase the number of calories they burn proportionally. But "over time, as you do higher levels of
activity, you don't increase your energy expenditure [or calories burned] in a linear way," she said.
The phenomenon is also in play on the flipside, in terms of calories we take in. "We tend to think that if [patients] eat less than 800 calories, the body's metabolism shuts down to a level that weight loss slows down quite a bit," Lofton said.
There are tricks to ratchet up the calorie burn from your workout if you do fall into that higher level of activity.
"If you run all the time, try biking or swimming, and if you bike, try running or swimming, because using different muscles can increase your energy expenditure again," Lofton said. "It may also be possible to decrease and then increase your activity again and get an increase [in calorie burning]," she said.
And if you think you can necessarily rely on your Fitbit or other device to tell you how many calories you burned, think again: We probably burn proportionally fewer calories as we exercise above a certain level of intensity.
"Activity monitors are going to be wrong at predicting energy expenditure because they aren't incorporating this adaptation," Pontzer said.
There's a hint of good news from the current study. The plateau in how many calories participants burned was higher for those with more body fat. "Body fat is sort of a long-term signal to the body about how active you have to be and how much food is available, so your body might burn more calories," Pontzer said.
Each of us probably maxes out at a slightly different calorie-burning plateau, Pontzer said. In addition to body fat, it could depend on metabolism, hormone levels, muscle mass and genetic differences.

As reported online April 4 in the journal Nature Nanotechnology, the scientists
experimentally demonstrated, for the first time, the ability to electrically generate
and control valley electrons in a two-dimensional semiconductor.
Valley electrons are so named because they carry a valley "degree of freedom."
This is a new way to harness electrons for information processing that's in addition
to utilizing an electron's other degrees of freedom, which are quantum spin in
spintronic devices and charge in conventional electronics.
More specifically, electronic valleys refer to the energy peaks and valleys in
electronic bands. A two-dimensional semiconductor called transition metal
dichalcogenide (TMDC) has two distinguishable valleys of opposite spin and
momentum. Because of this, the material is suitable for valleytronic devices, in
which information processing and storage could be carried out by selectively
populating one valley or another.
However, developing valleytronic devices requires the electrical control over the
population of valley electrons, a step that has proven very challenging to achieve
so far.
Now, Berkeley Lab scientists have experimentally demonstrated the ability to
electrically generate and control valley electrons in TMDCs. This is an especially
important advance because TMDCs are considered to be more "device ready" than
other semiconductors that exhibit valleytronic properties.
"This is the first demonstration of electrical excitation and control of valley
electrons, which will accelerate the next generation of electronics and information
technology," says Xiang Zhang, who led this study and who is the director of
Berkeley Lab's Materials Sciences Division.
Zhang also holds the Ernest S. Kuh Endowed Chair at the University of California
(UC) Berkeley and is a member of the Kavli Energy NanoSciences Institute at
Berkeley. Several other scientists contributed to this work, including Yu Ye, Jun
Xiao, Hailong Wang, Ziliang Ye, Hanyu Zhu, Mervin Zhao, Yuan Wang, Jianhua
Zhao and Xiaobo Yin.
Their research could lead to a new type of electronics that utilizes all three degrees
of freedom--charge, spin, and valley, which together could encode an electron with
eight bits of information instead of two in today's electronics. This means future
computer chips could process more information with less power, enabling faster
and more energy efficient computing technologies.
"Valleytronic devices have the potential to transform high-speed data
communications and low-power devices," says Ye, a postdoctoral researcher in
Zhang's group and the lead author of the paper.
The scientists demonstrated their approach by coupling a host ferromagnetic
semiconductor with a monolayer of TMDC. Electrical spin injection from the
ferromagnetic semiconductor localized the charge carriers to one momentum
valley in the TMDC monolayer.
Importantly, the scientists were able to electrically excite and confine the charge
carriers in only one of two sets of valleys. This was achieved by manipulating the
injected carrier's spin polarizations, in which the spin and valley are locked
together in the TMDC monolayer.
The two sets of valleys emit different circularly polarized light. The scientists
observed this circularly polarized light, which confirmed they had successfully
electrically induced and controlled valley electrons in TMDC.
"Our research solved two main challenges in valleytronic devices. The first is
electrically restricting electrons to one momentum valley. The second is detecting
the resulting valley-polarized current by circular polarized electroluminescence,"
says Ye. "Our direct electrical generation and control of valley charge carriers, in
TMDC, opens up new dimensions in utilizing both the spin and valley degrees of
freedom for next-generation electronics and computing."

Tesla’s Model S electric car is an industry leader in this space and, while it looks pretty futuristic, the technologies in this car will soon be commonplace in every high-end vehicle. A 17-inch touch-screen control panel gives drivers fingertip control over the car’s systems, from the suspension’s ride height to Internet radio and traffic-based navigation.
This connected technology extends beyond the driver, too. Cars that serve as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot are already on the road, with the Audi A3 stealing the march, but GM and Volvo are following quickly behind. That five-hour road trip to visit the in-laws you’ve been dreading? Now you can play your favorite video game on your laptop the whole way there (while your significant other drives, of course).
The Smartest Car On The Road
Connected car technology that allows cars to “talk” to one another regarding speed, location, direction of travel, braking, lane changes and more will likely be a reality (at least on highways) by the end of the decade. That’s because earlier this year, the Department of Transportation (DOT) fast-tracked the submission of a proposal requiring all new cars to be manufactured with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication capability. Named by MIT Technology Review as one of the biggest tech breakthroughs of 2015, V2V communication is not just a pipe dream.
These “connected cars” (or “talking cars” as they’re sometimes called) will have a communication range of about 1,000 feet (or about 10 seconds on the highway). Cars will be able to give and receive data in real-time, allowing drivers — or the driver’s car, rather — to react immediately. So when a vehicle is braking way ahead of you on a busy highway, the brake signal is picked up wirelessly by your car, which will then brake accordingly, avoiding an accident. A Wi-Fi-like, 5.9 GHz spectrum is already reserved for V2V communication on roadways and is equipped to avoid radio interference.
V2V technology is not only incredibly useful, it is also potentially lifesaving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that more than half a million accidents can be avoided and more than 1,000 lives saved annually in the U.S. alone by V2V communication.
And because about 90 percent of crashes are caused by human error, the potential impact of V2V communication is enormous, with a 70-80 percent estimated reduction in crashes involving unimpaired drivers.

According to GM, which is participating in the Mcity project, it will take about five years of V2V production in new cars for it to be workable on the roadways. It simply won’t work if too few cars have the communication technology. It would be like trying to text someone who doesn’t have a smartphone.
Smart Cars “Talk the Talk”
It’s not just that cars are talking to each other — they’re talking to nearly everything on the roadway. Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) systems will allow vehicles to communicate to traffic signals or other stationary devices such as toll booths and freeway ramp signals, so a driver knows when a detour is necessary. Once V2V technology is in enough cars, the accompanying V2I capability will create a vast network of roadway connectivity, like an “Internet of cars.”
V2I capability will allow cars to give and receive data in real time so that a driver can change his route accordingly. This means not only less-congested roads and fewer emissions, but also a considerable decrease in collisions.
V2I applications could mean such driving benefits as knowing when there’s considerable ice accumulation on a bridge, warnings of stand-still traffic or advisories of nearby emergency vehicles and road work zones.
A Smart Car Future
As a fan of technology and innovation, I’m inspired by the possibilities of connected vehicles and intelligent highways. While there are legitimate concerns about privacy and hacking, we’ve come a long way toward safer, more efficient transportation and we are clearly speeding toward a smarter future. سيارة تيسلا (موديل اس) الكهربائية هي الافضل في السوق. وحيث أنها تبدو حديثةً جداً وفريدة من نوعها، الا ان التقنيات التي بداخلها ستكون متوفرة بشكل شائع في كل سيارة راقية. انها تحوي على لوحة تحكم عبارة عن شاشة لمس بمساحة 17 انش يستطيع من خلالها قائدو المركبات من التحكم بأنظمة السيارة عن طريق اللمس باطراف الاصابع. ابتداءاً من انسيابية الحركة في الطرق الغير مستوية واذاعة الانترنت وانتهاءً بحركة السير القائمة على الملاحة.
ان هذه التقنية المتصلة تتجاوز قائد المركبة أيضاً. ان السيارات التي تعمل على نقطة الاتصال بالانترنت اللاسلكي (4جي) قد تم صنعها مسبقا بما في ذلك سيارة اودي اي 3 التي سرقت الاضواء الا ان سيارات فولفو و جي ام تسرع الخطى للحاق بالركب. هل اقلقتك رحلة الطريق التي تستغرق منك 4 ساعات لزيارة قريبٍ لك؟ الآن يمكنك تشغيل لعبة الفيديو المفضلة لديك على جهازك المحمول طوال الرحلة في حال كان مرافقك هو الذي يقود السيارة بالطبع.
السيارة الاذكى أثناء قيادتها على الطريق
التقنية المتصلة بالسيارة التي تتيح للسيارات خدمة التحدث الى بعضها البعض فيما يتعلق بالسرعة، الموقع، وجهة السفر، الضغط على مكابح السيارة، تغيير مسارات الطريق وغير ذلك من الخدمات التي ستصبح واقعاً ملموساً – على الاقل على الطرق السريعة – في نهاية هذا العقد. ان سبب هذا التنبؤ ما قد حصل مسبقاً من هذه السنة عن قيام وزارة المواصلات الامريكية بإنجازها السريع في تسليم مقترح يتطلب من جميع السيارات الجديدة أن تُصنع مع قابلية القدرة على التواصل بينها وبين السيارات الاخرى. إن تقنية التواصل بين السيارات هي من اكبر انجازات التقنية لعام 2015 -كما ذكرت ذلك مجلة التقنية الصادرة من معهد ماستشوتس (MIT technology Review) والتي لم تعد اطلاقاً حلماً مستحيلاً.
يترواح مدى تواصل هذه "السيارات المتصلة" -او ما تُسمى احيانا "بالمتحدثة"- ما يقارب 1000 قدم اي ما يعادل 10 ثواني على الطريق السريع. هذه السيارات بإمكانها ارسال واستقبال البيانات والتعامل معها مباشرةً بمجرد وصولها مما يتيح لقائدي المركبات او بالأحرى لمركباتهم ان تستجيب مباشرة لاي طاريء. ولذلك عند توقف سيارةٍ ما وهي أمامك بمسافة طويلةٍ جداً على طريق سريع ومزدحم فإن اشارة الضغط على مكبح تلك السيارة ستلتقطه سيارتك لاسلكياً وستقوم بناء على ذلك بالتوقف لتفادي وقوع اي حادث. ان هذا النوع من السيارات المتصلة فيما بينها قد زودت بطيف ترددي بمقدار 5.9 قيقا هرتز يشبه الاتصال اللاسلكي مخصص لتقنية التواصل بين السيارات (في 2 في) على الطرق السريعة ومجهّز كذلك لتفادي التداخل مع شبكة الاذاعة.
ان تقنية (في 2 في) التي تعمل بين السيارات ليست نافعة بشكل مذهل فحسب بل انها قد تنقذ حياة شخصٍ من خطر مُرتقب. فقد قدّرت ادارة امن الطرق المحلية بأنه في حال تم استخدام تقنية التواصل بين السيارات فقط فإنه بالامكان تفادي اكثر من نصف مليون حادث وإنقاذ حياة أكثر من 1000 شخص سنوياً
ولأن 90% تقريباً من حوادث التصادم سببها اخطاء بشرية، فإن تأثير هذه التقنية المتوقع سيكون تأثيراً هائلاً بانخفاضٍ يُقدّر بنسبة 70-80 % في الحوادث التي يكون فيها أصحابها سليمين.
ان كبرى شركات السيارات بما فيها فورد و جي ام سي مشتركة في مشروع منطقة ام سيتي بجامعة ميتشيقن الامريكية (University of Michigan’s Mcity ). هذا المشروع عبارة عن منطقة مضاهية للمدينة مساحتها 32 فداناً (128.000 الف متر مربع). تقوم مصانع السيارات في هذه المنطقة باختبار وتحسين سياراتهم المحتوية على مكائن خاصة بها مثل سيارة كادليك 2017 (موديل سي تي اس). هذه المنطقة التي تشبه مركز المدينة (داون تاون) تُظهِر طريقاً يمتد لاربعة اميال يحتوي على مربعاتٍ سكنية1 ، شوارع في اطراف المدينة، شوارع ريفية، طرق سريعة، مخارج، ومناطق دوران. إن هذه المنطقة تساعد المهندسين في تمكين هذه السيارات المزودة بتقنية الاتصال مع السيارات الاخرى للاستجابة الى ظروف الطريق النمطية.
وقريبا سيشهد العالم الحديث انسجاما بين الطرق السريعة والسيارات مما سيعيد الحلم الامريكي ذو الطرق المفتوحة على مصراعيها الى الحياة مجددا.

The Objectification of Muslims in America
In the wake of terrorist attacks, the United States shows the worst of its everyday bigotry. EMMA GREEN NOV 22, 2015 The first Muslims who came to the United States were likely African slaves. Later, in the middle of the 19th century, Muslims emigrated from the territories that would become Syria and Lebanon and settled in places like Ohio and Michigan. They arrived around the same time as many Jews from Eastern Europe, and just a few decades after many Catholics came from Ireland.
And yet, discussions about Muslims in the United States are not the same as most discussions of Catholics or Jews or other religious minorities. It has been a little more than a week since the attacks in Paris, claimed by the Islamic State; it has been two days since attacks in Mali, in which hostages were reportedly asked to recite the Shahada, Islam’s testament of faith, in order to be let go. This kind of extreme violence seems to serve as the unspoken backstory for public comments by politicians and articles in the media. Muslims—whether they’ve been in the U.S. for generations or for just a few years; whether they’re white or South Asian or of Arab descent; whether they’re practicing or lapsed or somewhere in between—are often considered as a mass, and mostly in relation to terrorism.
This elision has tangible consequences. Donald Trump suggests that all Muslims in the U.S. should be registered, apparently in all seriousness. Congress moves to halt assistance and resettlement for refugees fleeing Syria and Iraq. Communities from Houston to Tampa to Omaha report threats and defacement of mosques. Students experience Islamophobia on their campuses. Passengers refuse to get on flights with people who look Muslim. Ben Carson likens violent extremists to “rabid dogs.”
It’s easy, and probably politically savvy, to wave away anti-Muslim sentiment with rhetoric about security and radicalization, as almost all the GOP presidential candidates have done. But the backlash against Muslims isn’t a temporally limited flare-up, tied only to recent violence and set to die down once the memories of Paris fade. No matter how tightly they wrap themselves in the American flag, Muslims are largely seen as other in the United States—not just now, but all the time.
Changing the way Islam is seen and represented in American culture is difficult, though, particularly because Muslims are often tokenized and twisted into a predictable set of narratives. In the wake of the Paris attacks, for example, the debates followed predictable forms: Is ISIS Islamic, or is it not? Should Muslims push back against extremism more than they have been—a challenge posed not by Republican politicians, but by President Obama?
Even apparently silly examples can sting. “One video that recently popped up that was really problematic for me … was the BuzzFeed video series, ‘I’m Muslim, But...’” said Laila Alawa, one

of the co-founders of an opinion and news site called Coming of Faith. In the video, which has gotten more than 30 million views on Facebook, people stand up and say things like, “I’m Muslim, but I’m not a terrorist,” or “I’m Muslim, but I love Jews.” Alawa said she saw a lot of Muslims sharing the video. “They were excited by a media outlet that was giving them a chance to speak with their voices. But was still in essence silencing every other thing about them. When you’re saying ‘I’m Muslim, but,’ it’s like saying, ‘I’m a drug dealer, but...’”
This video is a mild, Millennial version of the Muslim public guilting that has come out in waves since the Paris attacks—Muslims performatively identifying and defying the blatant stereotypes about their religion, no matter how little their beliefs or communities or actions resemble one another’s. In every version of this performance, whether urgent or relatively anodyne, there is a genuine question. Should shared religious beliefs create a sense of responsibility, such that Muslims are expected to be the loudest voices in publicly protesting Islamist terrorism—especially when those beliefs are only distantly shared, as the vast majority of Muslims loudly deny the Islamic State’s interpretation of the Koran?
Alawa says no. “I don’t believe in apologizing [for] or condemning the actions of people who are, frankly, pieces of shit who happen to call themselves Muslims,” she said. Islam, like most religions, is not centralized and standardized; just because one group draws certain lessons from a set of texts doesn’t mean other groups believe and practice anything similar. The beliefs of ISIS are antithetical to American democracy; that does not mean Islam is as well.
“I think that coming out and publishing an apology recognizes that we’re not a part of the American diaspora,” Alawa said, “and instead tells America that we’re still not a part of it.”
Muslims are fundamentally not American, or need to prove themselves American: This is the latent idea lurking in most calls for Muslims to speak out or do some self-searching or acknowledge that ISIS also draws from Islamic texts. It is the basis for rejecting Muslim refugees, no matter how deftly politicians try to hide behind the excuse of “security.” And it is the dog whistle behind rhetoric from Trump, Carson, and others—Americans should fear Muslims, no matter how diverse and radically different from ISIS most members of that group may be.
It is, in a word, bigotry, and while it’s clearly visible right now, it is an every day fact of Muslim identity in American life. Alawa is one woman, representing one perspective, who is trying in a small way to make a different public space for Muslims in America. At Coming of Faith, she is amplifying and cultivating a cohort of young, female, mostly minority writers—including a significant number of Muslims who “just happen” to practice Islam. “My devious plan is for us to repackage our name [and] keep growing. People have already forgotten that we started out as mostly Muslim,” she said. They will be writers who can choose not to talk about extremism, because it is basically irrelevant to who they are and what they believe.

إن من المرجح أن يكون الرق الافارقة هم من أوائل المسلمين الذين وصلوا للولايات المتحدة. تلى ذلك –في منتصف القرن التاسع عشر- هجرة المسلمين من مناطق أصبحت تُعرف فيما بعد بسوريا ولبنان واستيطانهم في مناطق مثل اوهايو وميتشيقين. لقد كان وصولهم بنفس الوقت الذي وصل فيه الكثير من يهود اوروبا الشرقية وبعد عدة عقود فقط من وصول الكاثولوكيين القادمين من ايرلندا.

إن من السهل، والمحتمل أن يكون دهاءً سياسياً، أن تشير الى العاطفة المعادية للاسلام بلغةٍ رنانة عن الامن والتطرف، كما فعل ذلك معظم مرشحي الرئاسة في حزب الجمهوريين الامريكي (GOP). ولكن ردة الفعل العنيفة ضد المسلمين ليست حالةَ احتقانٍ محدودةٍ بشكلٍ مؤقت، أي أنها ليست مرتبطةً فقط بالأحداث الأخيرة ، ولم تُخلق ردة الفعل هذه من أجل أن تضغف عندما تتلاشى ذكريات باريس. إن المسلمين يُنظر اليهم بشكلٍ كبير على أنهم مجموعة مختلفة في الولايات المتحدة مهما حاولوا بإحكام أن يلفوا العلم الامريكي حول أجسادهم. إنها ليست وليدة اليوم بل في كل الاوقات.

وحتى تلك الامثلة التي تبدو سخيفةً في ظاهرها قد تؤذي المشاعر. تقول ليلى العوا- وهي إحدى مؤوسسي موقع "انطلاقاً من الايمان" للرأي والأخبار- "بأن أحد الفديوهات الذي خرج مؤخَراً كان مُشكلً عليها جداً وهو ’أنا مسلم، ولكن... ‘ضمن سلسلة الفيديوهات الموجودة في موقع (BuzzFeed)"
ففي هذا الفيديو، والذي وصل عدد المشاهدين له في الفيسبوك اكثر من 30 مليون مشاهد، يقف المشاركين فيه ويقولوا عبارات مثل "أنا مسلم، ولكن لست إرهابي،" او "انا مسلم، ولكن أحب اليهود." تقول العوا بأنها شاهدت كثيرا من المسلمين قاموا بمشاركة هذا الفيديو. وتردف قائلةً "لقد كانوا مسرورين لاعطائهم الفرصة من قبل وسيلة اعلامية ليعبروا عن رأيهم. ولكن ما زال في جوهره مخفيا كل شيءٍ آخر عنهم. فعندما تقول’أنا مسلم، ولكن ‘فهي كما تقول ’أنا بائع مخدراتٍ، ولكن‘…"
إن هذا الفيديو هو نسخة عصرية ومعتدلة من الاتهام العام للمسلمين والذي أصبح جلياً بصورةٍ متكررة منذ هجمات باريس- فالمسلمون يقومون بشكلٍ انجازي بتعريف ورفض الأفكار النمطية السافرة عن دينهم مهما تكن معتقداتهم ومجتمعاتهم وافعالهم ضئيلة في التشابه فيما بينهم. وفي كل صورة من هذا الاداء، سواءً كان اضطرارياً او مُهدِّئاً، يتبادر في الذهن سؤالٌ حقيقي. ألا يفترض من المعتقدات الدينية المُشتَركة ان تخلق حِساً من المسؤولية، يشبه ذلك الحس الذي يُتوقع فيه أن تكون أصوات المسلمين هي الاعلى احتجاجاً على الارهاب المتأسلم - وخصوصاً عندما تكون هذه المعتقدات متشاركةً على نحوٍ بعيد، كما تنكر الاغلبية الساحقة من المسلمين بصوتٍ عال تأويل الدولة الاسلامية للقرآن؟
تنفي ذلك العوا قائلةً "إنني لا أؤمن بالاعتذار أو شجب هذه الاعمال الصادرة من أناسٍ هم بكل صراحة عديمي الفائدة والذين صادف ان اسموا أنفسهم مسلمين." فالإسلام كمعظم الأديان الاخرى ليس له مركزية وليس موحداً في نمطٍ واحد; وإذا ما استمدت مجموعةٌ ما تعاليمها من مجموعة نصوص فهذا لايعني أن بقية المجموعات يؤمنون ويطبقون أي شيءٍ مقارب لهم. فمعتقدات الدولة الاسلامية مناهضة للديمقراطية الامريكية; ولا يعني ذلك أن الاسلام يتبنى هذه الفكرة.
"أتوقع أن الظهور ونشر الاعتذار يُقرّ بأننا لسنا جزءً من الشتات الامريكي،" تضيف العوا قائلةً "وبدلاً من ذلك نقول لامريكا بأننا لسنا جزءً منها."
المسلمون ليسوا أمريكيين بالأصل، ولا يحتاج أن يبرهنوا لأنفسهم أنهم أمريكيين: هذه هي الفكرة المبطنة والتي تكون مدسوسةً في أغلب النداءات الموجهة للمسلمين ليصدحوا علانية بموقفهم أو أن يمعنوا النظر فيه أو أن يقرُّوا أن تنظيم الدولة يستمد فكره من نصوصٍ اسلامية. إنه المنطلق الذي يتم من خلاله رفض اللاجئين السوريين مهما كانت لباقة السياسيين لمحاولة الاختباء خلف ذريعة "الامن." إنها الاشارة المفهومة وراء بلاغة ترامب وكارسن والاخرين- ينبغي على الامريكيين الحذر من المسلمين مهما اختلف أغلب هؤلاء الافراد من المسلمين بشكلٍ متأصلٍ ومتنوع عن تنظيم الدولة.
إنه، بوجيز العبارة، التعصب الاعمى والذي أثناء ما يكون مُشاهداً في الوقت الراهن الا أنه حقيقة يومية ضد الهوية المسلمة في الحياة الامريكية. تمثُّل العوا –كامراءة- توجهاً ما وتحاول في نطاقٍ ضيق أن تُحدث نظرةً عامةً ومختلفةً عن المسلمين في أمريكا. ففي موقعها "انطلاقاً من الايمان"، تقوم العوا بإبراز وتثقيف مجموعة من الكاتبات الصغيرات معظمهمن دون سن الرشد- بما في ذلك عدد كبير من المسلمات الللاواتي صادفن أن بدأن بالامتثال بتعاليم الدين الاسلامي. "إن خطتي الغير مباشرة هي أننا نعيد تقويم أنفسنا ونستمر في البناء. لقد نسي الناس مسبقاً أننا بدأنا كأغلبيةٍ مسلمة." كما ذكرت ذلك العوا. سيكون هناك كُتّاباً لا يميلون الى التحدث عن التطرف، لانه بالأساس لا يمت لهويتهم بصلة ولا لمعتقدهم.

Bio
Being a PhD student in translation studies program at Binghamton University in the USA, I have been enrolled in the translation workshops for the whole academic year, both literary and non-literary. I have been trained to translate in different fields such as medical, law, scientific, literary, religious, and journalistic texts.
Currently, I worked as a localization linguist in Multilingual Connections, Inc. We are currently working on Netflix projects relating to localization its products in Middle East and North Africa.
I was also engaged in teaching linguistic and translation undergraduate courses at Umm al-Qura University, Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the period of 2013-2015.
During this period, I was also assigned to work as the Deputy Dean of Administration and Registration office in the College. This has granted me the chance to practice the translation skills in both academic and administrative atmosphere.
Healthcare administration/translation was among the field that I have gained experience in during my work as a medical secretary at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. That has exposed my to a huge knowledge about the healthcare terminologies and policies.
Volunteering in translation/interpreting was among my interests. I have participated in some translation/interpreting tasks at American Civic Association in Binghamton, NY USA. The nature of these tasks was helping Arab refuges to settle in and accommodate to their new residence, USA. Please refer to my resume for further details and reference.
