About me

Personality

I love to exercise a concise, focused, and direct communication, which is also an essential part of my emotionally sound work environment. This behaviour allows me to think critically, analyse and solve problems swiftly, and never lose sight of the bigger picture. I have developed a level of empathy that allows me to understand each party's standpoint, even if I do not agree; being inclusive is a vital part of my personality. As a result, I have an open mind that incorporates all variables, including the option that I might be biased. I do not think outside the box; I live outside the box!

Experience

I had the privilege of working with global corporates, medium-sized companies, as well as family-run businesses. My lifestyle permitted me to venture through Europe and Southeast Asia, where I was able to test my limits, which, in turn, taught me most of my practical skills and expanded my mind. Based on these experiences, I concluded that most work environments, often unknowingly, neglect emotional hygiene and healthy communication. As a result, companies prevent themselves from performing their best. I earned my Bachelors degree (Hons) in Psychology and Linguistics at the National University of Ireland, Galway and studied Neuropsychology at Maastricht University. Tertiary education changed my life by showing me that the transfer of collective knowledge is the basis for all societal advancements.

Approach

As a freelancer and independent contractor, I use my accumulated knowledge to improve projects by asking uncomfortable questions, pointing out the obvious, and providing straightforward solutions. My work is methodical; I do this to save my time as well as yours. My goal is to form flourishing long-term relationships that serve each party equally.

About us

Who we are

We are spouses who earned our undergraduate degree in psychology and linguistics together. During our studies, each of us identified their specific skillsets, and we learned that pooling our resources leads to improved results. We applied the same methodology throughout our postgraduate studies in neuropsychology, and continue this trend for our work as freelancers as well as independent contractors. Our most significant advantage is that we work as a team and make decisions based on our ability to think critically.

What we do

We improve your written communication! It is vital to us that the target audience understands your message, but it is equally important that you, as the client, know what it is you want to communicate with whom. We analyse and edit the source for grammatical as well as factual errors; plus, we translate and proofread from German to English and vice versa. We excel in the areas of communication, behaviourism, market research (open ends), neuropsychology (anamnesis), psychopharmacology, trauma, as well as emotional regulation, abuse, and neglect. Our background as academics permits us to research and familiarise ourselves with a variety of topics as needed. As psychologists, we apply scientific standards to all of our projects and combine them with our understanding that language is context dependent. By using this accumulated knowledge, we turn complex content into short texts and translations that are easy to understand, free of errors, and will delight your readers with a natural flow.

What drives us

We are scientists! Our approach to work as linguists is evidence based; nonetheless, we are aware that language is elaborate and ever evolving. Both of us are notorious problem solvers. Because of this, we have developed workflows that permit us to create objectively measurable results that satisfy even our picky minds. We are not interested in solely adhering to currently practised conventions but in defining and establishing improved standards that guide writers to become better communicators. Our work processes undergo continuous evaluation, and we do not hesitate to criticise our work if it does not meet our criteria. It is our passion for condensed and immaculate language, as well as the ability to take ownership of our work, that drive us to perfection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes you different?

We are bold! We have a thorough understanding of guidelines and conventions and no issue challenging them if this leads to better results. We also nurture an emotionally healthy work environment based on sound client interactions, mutual respect, paired with an understanding of each party’s needs and abilities.

Why choose you?

We are graduated psychologists/linguists who know how to transform research into practical applications. Our abilities permit us to exceed a singular specialisation on linguistics; we continuously incorporate contemporary research into our processes and creations.

Are you an agency?

No. We are a family business comprised of a married couple working together.

When did you start working together?

We started collaborating in 2011 during our undergraduate studies and decided that we wanted to work together full-time in 2015.

What are your academic qualifications?

We both hold a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Psychology and Linguistics from the National University of Ireland, Galway as well as a Master’s degree in Neuropsychology from Maastricht University.

Are you a member of any professional association?

Yes, we are with the American Psychology Association (APA), the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI), as well as the Irish Translators’ and Interpreters’ Association (ITIA).

What services do you provide?

We edit, translate, and proofread. We also work as consultants assisting individuals or companies in analysing their communication and improving the consistency, legibility, as well as the flow of their projects.

What are your specialisations?

Our primary focus is market research, neuropsychology, communication, emotional regulation, and trauma. We are also fluent in finance, technical, gaming, as well as all things computer and software related. Nevertheless, us being scientists, we can research and familiarise ourselves with most other topics as needed.

What are your language pairs?

We work from German to English as well as English to German.

What type of projects do you cover and what is your availability?

We mostly take on projects that we can complete within a week. We also work on larger projects that span over several weeks or months.

What is your turnaround time when inquiring for projects?

We reply to emails within one working day. We gladly to take your call in urgent situations.

How do you define quality?

We compare our creations to contemporarily accepted standards, both within and without context, to determine their quality; working with self-imposed rules to guide our profession and having long-term exposure to the subject matter also helps to provide a valid statement on excellence.

How do you control for quality?

Our editing, translation, and proofreading process is the result of a tried-and-tested workflow, which is under continuous scrutiny. We utilise software tools that check for grammar and perform quality assurance to compensate for the limits of sustained attention, which, in turn, helps us to quantify improvement.

Do you adhere to any international standards?

Yes, we are compliant with ISO 17100:2015 by the International Organization for Standardization, but also implement other processes to further improve communication, workflow, and product/service quality.

How much do you charge?

Our remuneration depends on the quality of the source text, the time we have to complete the project, as well as the payment terms.

What CAT tool do you use?

We use Memsource for all our projects. Its integration of term bases and translation memories permits us to ensure consistency, improve quality objectively, and allows us to collaborate on projects in real time.

What referencing system do you use?

We use APA for science and MLA for literature. Customers can also provide a style guide.

What do you value?

Our work. We take ownership and enjoy the tasks at hand, knowing that we can provide people with access to content they had not before. We also embrace clients who are committed to smooth communication, pay attention to small details, and are as passionate about language as we are.

Why are there no pictures of you?

We like our work to speak for us and not having it influenced by gender bias or other stereotypes.
