Nuclear medicine is above all a functional imaging tool.
Monitoring the distribution of radioactive substances injected into patient gives physicians information that is not accessible by other methods in fields as diverse as oncology, haematology, cardiology and rheumatology.
In fact, almost all medical specialties can benefit from this technology.
In addition, it is clearly evident that the ionising properties of radionuclides can also be of unique benefit to the patient during therapy.
This aspect will be dealt with in one of the following chapters.
For almost half a century quality images could only be obtained with gamma radiation and most radiopharmaceutical products were developed on the basis of gamma emitting radionuclides associated with the imaging tools available for this type of radiation.
Positron sources have been developed in the course of the last two decades only following the invention of dedicated cameras and above all more user-friendly methods of producing α-radionuclide sources.
We’ll take a closer look at this fast-developing technology further in this book.

На протяжении почти полувека качественные изображения могли быть получены только с помощью гамма излучения и большинство радиофармацевтических препаратов (РФП) были разработаны на основе радионуклеидов, испускающих гамма лучи в сочетании с доступным для данного вида радиации способа визуализации.
Источники позитронов были разработаны в последние два десятилетия после внедрения специальных камер, а главным образом после разработки более практичных методов получения источников α-радионуклеидов.

Natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL).
It was previously called LMG (lethal midline granuloma) (1,2), PMR (polymorphic malignant reticulosis) (3,4) or AIL (angiocentric immunoproliferative lesion) (5).
In the REAL classification, this disease entity was classified as angiocentric T-cell lymphoma, reflecting its morphological characteristics (angiocentricity) and immunohistochemical features (T cell predominance) (6).
In 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) suggested the terminology ‘NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type’ (7).
This means extranodal NHL of the nasal cavity presenting NK or T cell markers.

ЕК/T-клеточная лимфома, назального типа является редким подтипом Неходжкинских лимфом (НХЛ).
Прежде называемая срединная гранулема лица (СГЛ) (1,2), ПЗР (полиморфный озлокачествленный ретикулез) (3,4) или АИЛ (ангеоцентрическая иммунопрофилеративная лезия) (5).
В REAL-классификации в целом это заболевание классифицируется как ангиоцентрическая Т-клеточная лимфома, что отражает его морфологические характеристики (ангиоцентрическая) и иммуногистохимические особенности (преобладание Т-клеток) (6).
В 2002 году Всемирная Организация Здравоохранения (ВОЗ) утвердила термин «ЕК/Т-клеточная лимфома назального типа» (7).
Это означает экстранодальную НХЛ носовых пазух проявляющуюся маркерами ЕК или Т-клеток.
