— Расскажите, с чего начался ваш бизнес?
Идея открыть отель в курортном городе, где на каждый квадратный метр по дому отдыха, санаторию и гостинице, прямо скажем, новизной не блещет. Sergei Pavlenko, the marketing director of Cruise, a chain of resort-hotels in Anapa, Russia, shares how he promoted a new hotel on the internet and ensured that it enjoyed high occupancy even towards the end of September.
— Tell us how your business got started.
Well, I can't claim that the idea of opening a hotel in a resort city where there is already a vacation retreat, health spa, or hotel on every corner is particularly original. But the newest Cruise is not just another hotel: after we opened our first hotel, we set our sights on creating a place where the level of service would be on par with what one finds in hotels abroad. Anapa has a lot of advantages, and we knew we could attract a higher-paying clientele if we could compete with foreign businesses. That was our main impetus when we were designing our second hotel, the Grand Cruise. We dove into the project with enthusiasm, designing new room types, children's suites, a large pool, and multimedia elements. Now that we've opened our third hotel, La Meliya, we think that we've finally managed to dispel Soviet-era stereotypes about "typical Anapa service".

Прогнозирование спроса — задача, где точность предсказания особенно важна, так как позволяет достичь баланса бизнес-интересов. Скидочные продукты раскупают быстрее обычных, то есть при оптимизации в сторону уменьшения объема поставок покупатель может не обнаружить нужный товар. А это, в свою очередь, недопустимо, поскольку клиенты, всегда имеющие возможность найти товар со скидкой в наличии, с большей вероятностью остаются лояльными.
С другой стороны, излишне увеличивать объем поставок тоже нельзя. # Demand and Discounts
Forecasting demand requires a high degree of precision since it’s important to strike a balance between various business interests. Discounted products sell faster than regularly-priced ones, so any optimization efforts that involve decreasing delivery volumes may result in customer demand going unmet. Considering that visitors who get the deals they were looking for are typically the ones that become loyal customers, this situation is clearly undesirable.
On the other hand, delivery volumes can also be too high. Additional expenses are incurred when there is not enough demand for a product: excess goods must be stored, perishables that are not sold go to waste, etc. For these reasons, delivery volume predictions should match actual sales as closely as possible.

В письме Борис Акимов дает свою версию ответов на вечные русские вопросы: что делать и кто виноват? И выдвигает собственную гипотезу дальнейшего развития страны.
Я прекрасно понимаю, что этот текст, скорее всего, не будет кем-либо воспринят как программа немедленных действий. Мало того, текст написан мною больше ради себя самого. У меня есть такое приобретенное с возрастом качество – сделать то, что в моих силах на данный момент. Меня, безусловно, волнует то, что происходит с моей страной. В какой-то момент показалось, что у меня появились ответы на главные русские вопросы: кто виноват и что делать? Этот текст – то немногое, что я могу сделать на данный момент. Напишу его и на некоторое время успокоюсь. Если вдруг он все же поможет кому-то кроме меня, буду чрезвычайно рад.
Translation - English Boris Akimov, one of the founders of the farmers cooperative LavkaLavka, wrote an Open Letter to the Current and Future Russian Authorities (Whoever They May Be.) In it, he presents his version of answers to the "eternal" Russian questions - what should be done, and who is to blame? - and puts forth his own hypothesis regarding Russia's further development.
I understand perfectly well that this text will not be taken as a blueprint for realization in the near future. Nevertheless, I wrote it for my own sake. With age, I have developed the drive to do what is within my power at the present moment and I am worried about what is happening in my country. Recently, it came to me that I have the answers to those most quintessential of Russian questions: What is to be done, and who is to blame? This text thus represents what I am personally able to contribute at this time. Having written it, I can now relax a bit. If it proves useful to someone other than myself, I will be thrilled.

Based on user reviews, we have compiled a collection of over 200,000 images from our partners.
The most impressive images from that collection are singled out automatically based on an analysis of their graphic elements: gradient, texture, color characteristics, contrast, etc. The image selection program uses machine learning based on deep neural networks. It is able to classify and choose the best images without human input.
Then the selected images must pass individual moderation. We check to make sure that there are no portraits or erotic pictures among the chosen images and ensure that a variety of themes are represented.

I am a freelance Russian to English translator, copywriter, and editor based on the East Coast. My areas of specialization include IT, software localization, advertising, and academia (the humanities).
In addition to translating and editing, I also offer copywriting/ transcreating services for projects that call for a less literal translation or for which no equivalent text in the source language exists.
My areas of specialization are partly a product of my academic background, but also a result of having worked in various multinational companies abroad. I have an MA in musicology and studied Russian and translation in both Russian and US universities, so I am comfortable working with academic texts in various areas of the humanities. Additionally, I gained experience working with technical documentation and interface as an in-house translator for the multinational tech company Yandex.
Recent projects have included transcreating material for case studies of business solutions based on machine learning, editing press releases for a Russian app with an international reach, and translating guidelines for clients of an advertising service based in Moscow.
