Social behaviours of anxious and depressive young children
Results from a growing number of studies suggest that young children prone to internalizing problems display characteristic socially-withdrawn behaviours amongst peers. That is, when faced with opportunities for social interaction, be it at preschool, playgroup, or on the playground, anxious and depressive children tend to keep to themselves, refrain from talking, and rarely initiate social exchanges with other children. As well, both anxious and depressive young children demonstrate deficits in social skills (e.g., making eye contact, initiating conversational requests) that may further impede their abilities to participate in peer activities.
Although anxious children might be interested in social interaction, this desire to approach others is often inhibited by social reticence. As a result, they tend to spend more time onlooking (watching other children without joining) and hovering on the edge of social groups. There is some evidence to suggest that young depressive children also experience social impairment. For example, children who display greater depressive symptoms are more likely to be rejected by peers. Moreover, deficits in social skills (e.g., social participation, leadership) and peer victimization predict depressive symptoms in childhood. There is also substantial longitudinal evidence linking social withdrawal in childhood with the later development of more significant internalizing problems. For example, Katz and colleagues followed over 700 children from early childhood to young adulthood and described a pathway linking social withdrawal at age 5 years – to social difficulties with peers at age 15 years – to diagnoses of depression at age 20 years.

Mora and Nestel have provided a summary of policy initiatives in developing countries that can improve prenatal nutrition. They concluded that increasing policy support for women’s education, legislating for women’s nutrition, financing health services for women, and integrating women into the planning systems for health care and nutrition services can effectively reduce the life cycle of malnutrition among women and children. Studies examining the effects of micronutrient supplementation during pregnancy have demonstrated positive effects in infant weight, size, and length of gestational age, but few studies have examined the impact of supplementation on maternal health. A comprehensive view of women’s health and nutrition should acknowledge the importance of women’s education as the primary step in reducing malnutrition. Lengthening inter-pregnancy intervals by providing contraception in a culturally sensitive manner can also reduce the depletion of a woman’s nutritional stores due to frequent pregnancies. Family planning services must therefore be integrated into postpartum services. In addition, support must be provided for breastfeeding—an important contributor to child survival in developing countries.

Source text - Russian Термокарстовые озера данной территории характеризуются низкими значениями pH, но как видно из табл. 1, этот показатель растет в процессе развития озерных экосистем. Ранее нами было показано [6, 17], что на всех этапах развития термокарстовых озер субарктики Западной Сибири показатель растворенного органического углерода уменьшается, т.к. доминирующей формой растворенного органического вещества являются аллохтонные фульвокислоты и гуминовые кислоты, поступающие в воду при выщелачивании из торфяной почвы [6, 8].
Нами установлена тенденция увеличения показателя РОУ в конечной стадии развития озер, возможно, это связано со степенью зарастания макрофитами литорали озер и образованием автохтонного органического вещества, вследствие чего, происходит увеличение содержания DOC в озерных водах.
Полученные в результате анализов данные по составу вод термокарстовых озер и макрофитов позволяют говорить о динамике содержания ряда химических элементов.
Изменения содержания химических элементов в водных растениях на примере Вахты трехлистной в общем виде может быть представлено в виде графика (Рис. 2).
Translation - English Thermokarst lakes of this territory are characterized by low pH value, as seen from Table 1. This figure increases in the course of lake ecosystems development. It was shown earlier [6, 17] that the rate of organic carbon decreases on each development stage of thermokarst lakes in northern West Siberia, due to the fact that the prevailing form of a dissolved organic matter is fulvic and humic acid, flowing into water when degraded from peat soil [6, 8].
We have established the tendency of growth in dissolved organic matter in the final stage of development of lakes. It is probably connected with the degree of overgrowing of littoral zones by macrophytes with further formation of autochthonous organic matter, which results in increase in DOC in lake waters.
Analytical data on the elemental composition of thermokarst lakes and macrophytes allow to consider the dynamics of concentration of a number of chemical elements.
Fluctuations of concentrations of chemical elements in water plants by the example of Menyanthes trifoliata can be represented graphically (Figure 2).
