Steve here. Hello!
I'm a freelancer with over 8 years of experience under the proverbial belt. I translate, write, edit, and do just about everything else in between.
My start in the world of text work came while I was still at university. A professor approached me with an offer to translate chapters of a co-written monograph. I accepted, and the rest is history.
My unique background enables me to work with a variety of industries and genres of texts. In the beginning, I trained as a linguist. Eventually, I pursued and obtained advanced degrees in literature. Then I moved abroad and started working for a large, multi-national IT company as a senior legal analyst specializing in intellectual property and EU data protection law with occasional forays into competition law. Throughout I continued and still continue to translate, write, and edit, helping my clients deliver their message to their English-speaking audiences.
Most of my previous projects have included marketing- and advertising-related texts, such as websites, pamphlets, case studies, events postings, and other collateral. Others have involved technical or specialized documents for a narrower audience, e.g. user manuals, help guides, patents, legal opinions, licensing agreements, and internal and external company policies. Also, my time in academia has given me opportunities to work in fields like history of medicine, anthropology, philosophy, art history, and literary theory and criticism.
On a personal note, I enjoy cafe-hopping on cool, sunny days with a real page-turner.
